I'm starting to feel sorry for the refs . .

I heard someone talking on SEN radio about an AFL game on weekend and how good it was to watch in the last quarter because the refs swallowed the whistle and didn't blow hardly any infrigements and the game was decided by the best team who lasted the distance not because of some junk decision. Imagine how good NRL would be to watch if they did the same and kicked the bunker to the curb for try decisions only. No bullsh*t 6 agains , penalties only for obvious foul play. There was a play the ball penalty when the player clearly had his boot within mm of the ball that was absolutely outrageous on the weekend I forget who.
The cxnts can't help themselves

This weekends round is going to be interesting. How will the refs back track on the crackdown that wasn’t a crackdown? Especially since after Abdos PR campaign, I think it is now even less clear what will happen. I bet the refs are as confused as everyone else.

The crackdown seems to be one of those 'technical' things where Adbo can say "we didn't tell the refs to crackdown on head highs +sin bins....."

But it seems disingenuous to then say "We told the referees that they missed quite a few high tackles that should have been a sin binning offence" and not expect the refs to give a heap of sin binning's the next round.

Either way - I am glad he said the bunker will stop going back a set to stop play for an infraction.

I wonder if the bunker refs were thinking: "Well they told us we missed quite a few and it wasn't good enough...I can see a high tackle from the last set and I don't want to get into more trouble, so I am going to pull play up."

Only to be now told not to do that unless it is a super duper ooouper piece of illegal play.

One....one....could almost feel sorry for the refs!

Yep, I suspect Abdo is just making things worse.

The line from Abdo that there has been no crackdown is simply ridiculous.

Does he expect us to believe that some random refs and/or bunker clowns just decided on a collective whim to start binning people for any head contact no matter how small/accidental and no matter when it supposedly happened (2 sets ago?). They have clearly been directed to do so. The fact he is not owning it speaks volumes as to the leadership in the game. Just more knee jerking responses which then get knee jerked back the other way when there’s an uproar.

Really annoyed he isn’t being grilled harder on this by so called journalists, who are clearly not interested in rocking the boat.

I actually did LOL at that from Abdo. No crackdown?? Right.....................

His interview on 360 last night smacked of "Don't blame us, blame the players and referees".

Exactly. He was even spinning some bull**** that certain clubs are more at fault than others. Trying to apportion blame to certain clubs and players when almost all head contacts are accidental. Just illustrates he has NFI about league.

Both the refs and bunker are making dud calls "every game"
The issue is not just them, but mainly the heirarchy who have them under the microscope to clamp down on "any" head collision (not head high)....the 1 where a bloke who was felled in a tackle and his head collided with TKO's stomach, was the worst thing Iv'e ever seen in a rugby league game.
I mean if they are going to rule that 10 in the bin, teams will lose 3 o4 players every set of 6 tackles !!
To be fair with the crackdowns due to safety, i don't even mind it....but now it's become ridiculous where a defending player who has zero intent to go high and has an attacking player fall into him, is marched for 10 minutes for "being on the field" and holding his position - no swinging arm or shoulder to the head, more a backstop in the way of a bloke falling and is 1-2 foot off the ground....guess what, his head will hit a player EVERY time !!
The big problem is it will change, but after there is a tight Grand Final being decided by a player "wrongly" sin binned, but as usual with the NRL - too little too late after this blight on the game decides a Premiership .....

That was the tackle Sips got a 4 week holiday for, and he's only gone for that long because the guy got a broken leg. If there was no injury, Sips would have gotten a week, maybe.

The bin for that tackle wasn't for a high shot. It was for the hip drop.
