Not sure there are two sides here

Gay people deserve to be treated the same as every other person and have the same rights including against discrimination.

I can not understand how this is still an issue for some people in 2019

Where in this thread/topic is "equal treatment" the issue.

I treat everyone with the same respect as a default baseline, i can still have my opinions but expressing them is not going to offer any productive outcome so just keep them to myself.

Treating everyone equally doesn't mean i can't have a "personal" opinion or belief system, just means my day to day interactions with people remain equal so that we all get along.
