A man caught his estranged wife in bed with her lover, stabbed him to death and cut off his penis last night, a Sydney court heard today.
Sydney's Central Local Court was told that Gabor Ziha, 56, of Baulkham Hills, took the severed penis of the victim, Barry Corbett, 54, and placed it in a drawer containing the underwear of his wife, Marija, 54.
The alleged attack took place at Mr Corbett's unit in Stewart Street, Parramatta.
The grisly facts emerged when Ziha, who refused to tell police what his occupation was, faced the magistrate, Gail Madgwick.
Ziha stabbed Marija several times in the leg before she could flee, according to a statement of facts handed to the court by police prosecutor Sergeant Todd Pickering.
Ziha has been charged with one count of murder and one count of malicious wounding causing grievous bodily harm.
It was alleged he drove from his home in Chapel Lane, Baulkham Hills, to Stewart Street at 9pm with a "cutting implement" and a torch.
Police allege he used a set of keys given to him by one of his two adult children to get into the unit and attacked Marija and Mr Corbett while they were asleep in bed.
Ziha had been estranged from his wife for several months and she had gone to live with Mr Corbett, police said.
Ziha stabbed Mr Corbett repeatedly at 9.45pm, police alleged.
"While this occurred, Marija decamped from the bed and unit and went running up the street where she was consoled and assisted by a witness who was walking up Stewart Street," the statement read.
"[Marija] was in her pyjamas and bleeding from several wounds to her leg."
When police arrived at the unit they found Mr Corbett dead in the bedroom from multiple stab wounds.
"It was noted the penis of the deceased had been severed and placed in a drawer obviously containing belongings of Marija Ziha," the statement of facts said.
Shortly after midnight, police surrounded Ziha's home and negotiated his surrender by phone.
Police allege that, when telephoned, Ziha told the police negotiator: "Yes, I know, you can come and pick me up now."
Police allege that, before being charged at Parramatta police station this morning, Ziha had made "certain admissions" about his movements last night but refused to answer any questions in relation to the attack on Mr Corbett.
Ziha did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody to reappear before the court next Wednesday.
