Desperate when Jorge is getting called upon.
Jorge can't catch, leaves wing to be beaten on the outside and is as slow as a turtle.
We do not have 1 decent winger or centre. Cut the lot an re invest
When you say he leaves the wing to be beaten its because his inside man and or men aren't doing their job. If he stays in position then 8 out of 10 times the centre will score on the inside. Would you still blame him for that? Yes he's slow on the turn and yes he has issues in the air but a lot of the 'he should never play FG again' fans choose to overlook the cover behind in his defence style. When Turbo was fit and firing 90% of the time he was there to cover from behind while Tafua shot up to either close down the oncoming attack or absolutely smash the oppisition centre.
Turbo was the entire key to that defence style as his big body and impeccable positional play could manhandle most wingers if the did strip around the outside.
Jorge was mostly shown up last year when he had Garrick, Walker and Funa as FB that were nowhere to be seen. These 3 are not a Fullbacks Arsehole.

mate jorge came off his wing 20-30+ times last year, has done it for a few years now... definitely not the lack of turbo at fault here, rather jorge trying to extend his big hits highlights reel

Are you actually advocating the creation of an overlap for the opposition? Racing in for the "big hit" is very hit & miss. Secondly, strong defensive teams actually play numbers. They have their man, you'll often see players pointing at their (or someone else's) intended marker / target.

Agree about the fullback steering or navigating the defensive units (Stewart used to be amazing at doing this). Latrell Mitchell for example has embraced this as well this season. This is why clubs need to have "specialist fullback" replacements. It's diabolical that the club doesn't have one, and we are forced to play wingers and centre's there.

Our recruitment has been god awful.

I would suggest if you had time to go back and log those 30 or 40 Jorge walkabouts and check who was playing FB you may have part of your answer. But we won't so it's a mute point I guess.
I'm not saying he should be back in just looking at why he did what he did and when he did it.
Our defensive lines have been best when we have an international quality FB directing the line. Snake, Turbo, Ridge are just a few.

completely agree with your last point there
but just think he definitely did it a lot with turbo. Less? Sure. but still was a woeful defender even when turbo was back
Definitely not the answer for us and would rather give funa/tuipolotu/koula a chance on the wing, or shift a centre like suli there than give jorge a go again

It's not hit and miss if you have a big body in behind that you have confidence in to cover.
It's actually a weapon if done correctly. You smash that inside man once and he will know your there. You smash him twice and next time he Gets that ball he will be looking for the rocket before even thinking about anything else.

In normal circumstances I would say a big no to JT coming back in but anyone would be better than Garrick at the moment wouldn't they?
I just don't see a huge upside with Funa and I'm not sure why. Just very underwhelmed. Not really big. Not really fast. Not really tall.
Tippy toes is an unknown quality.
Koala a bit young perhaps? Look at the next big thing Albert last year. Looked very underdone for FG.

Garrick has absolutely no impact whatsoever. None! He gets smashed bring the ball out of our own end, misses tackles on a regular basis, and appears to be entirely lost out there.

At least he puts fear into the other sides with his bell ringing defence. He plays with heart and passion.

Put a decent defensive centre with him and fullback that knows what he is doing.
He would be the slowest winger in RL history. Maybe Ok in the 2nd row.

See who wins then
Jorge is virtually unstoppable 10 metres out from the try line, but it's been a few years since he scored a 50 metre or even a 40 metre try. In 2019-20 he made a couple of good line breaks in the middle of the field (rucking the ball out from his own end), but I can't remember any along the sideline. I think outside backs should have sufficient pace to score from their own half if given the opportunity. Unfortunately, neither Jorge nor Brad have this.

If Horhay is our saviour, then we're well and truly farrked
We've just got to put him in. While I'm not into bagging our players unnecessarily, I just can't cop Reuben Garrick any longer. He adds nothing to this team. His carries are poor, he keeps his body height so that teams can gang tackle him and consistently drive him back. Someone tell him he's not 110kgs. He should just burrow and get to ground for a quick play as much as possible. His defence is woeful, the way he charged out of marker to cover the first receiver on Saturday leaving Cook an untouched run to the tryline, after Des would have barked all week about watching Cook at dummy half, was under 8's stuff. Against the roosters, albeit their good centre, wing, fullback combinations, his 1 on1 misses were poor. I can accept mistakes. What I can't accept is the same mistakes by the same people week in week out without any hint of improvement. He may even get a stay of execution if he was kicking at 90%. Unfortunately it's a 1.30 start for Reuben IMO.

don't think you've seen much that has an inch of positivity to it

jorge is garbage. no thanks. would prefer:
1. Koula
2. Funa
3. Tuipolotu
4. Harper
5. Parker
6. Simona
7. George Rose
ahead of Jorge Taufua on the wing in our side

hah I thought you were naming your backline then I seen Georgie at half
