What a great thread topic. Expect to be hammered! @:D
I usually imagine Manly can win each year, so I'm less confident in the objectivity of my assessments lately. Nevertheless, I too can see Manly doing a lap of honour in 2024 (if I squint real hard) :)
I used to think that Manly could win it every year up to 1997, because we always had depth in the club, but since 2015 our forwards have been ordinary, and if you don't have good forwards you can't do it.

Regardless of any more late signings, we won't have the most decorated or most experienced squad.
So... (!) Manly will need a strong start in the trials, and a win over Souths in Vegas. We started well this year but started to falter after a few weeks.
If we can keep it going for longer, say the first 4-6 weeks, not winning everything but winning most and playing well, then momentum could start to really build. And if that happens... we're a chance!
Most NRL rosters are similar in physical capability, so belief and confidence can make a huge difference.

The first step is conceding no more than 14 points a game. Showing resilience under pressure, staying together as a team and hoping our spine play most of the time.

We have some really good players in the team, what is needed is leadership apart from DCE.

No one truly rates us so it's a big opportunity.

Brookvale needs to become a fortress again, we've lost so many home games in the last decade!!

10 long seasons have now gone by since Manly was last in a grand final.

This is now officially the longest grand final drought period in the club's entire history since 1947.

Sadly we have gone from our decades of Dominance
To our decade of Decline

We can not keep living off our past Glory
In our New Era we must Create a New Era of Dominance
and Live up to our Legendary clubs Benchmark of Premiership Winning Excellence

New Era > High Expectations > Bring on 2024

Premierships are won with $. $$$.
Over to you Mr Penny.
Premierships are also won with the right Personnel
Meaning Money has to be spent on the right people

The Dogs for example are one of the wealthiest clubs that have made poor $$$ personnel choices
over the years and have had poor on field results

Souths were beatable in the 2021 final but Manly made too many mistakes and as usual a few too many calls went against them. At 12-0 should have been a Manly try & back in the game, but bunker spotted Tom T in their opinion lost possession over the try line (see video).

Our forwards, and 9 are terrible. Not only have we not signed anyone half decent, we've gone backwards in low quality depth that we've had (now Aloiai may be next). Yet, like every year, people expect a magical turn around in form.

We'll be one of the league's dead weights for the third year straight. 12th-16th is my guess.

Half the team are returning from long (and I mean LONG) term injury (Turbo, Garrick, Paseka, Aloiai, Lodge, Croker, Tuipulotu, Lawton) then you have players who couldn't make the grade (Schuster).

We still don't have a specialist starting 9. The one we have has 0 X-factor and running game. We are STILL looking at playing players out of position due to **** recruitment.

Is what it is. Bar is very low. I'll be happy when we can scratch a win. Haven't been able to win 50% of our games for two years straight. That will continue as top 8 teams continue to batter us.

Season ticket holders are in for yet another real treat (then again, they are taking a heap of game away - U.S. , Brisbane etc. ) - stupid.

Our forwards, and 9 are terrible etc etc etc etc etc etc
This your opinion feathered friend @Rayn

You have been a loyal club member for many years and a Manly club member that was used to our glory days who finds it heartbreaking and nerve wracking to see our Legendary club fall from Grace from Decades of Dominance to our long Decade of Decline
And our Decline has been the Results of poor Decisions over the years

You have been out spoken and critical of our clubs poor choices that lead to our Decline and you have been Vindicated by our clubs poor results
Any Manly person That is critical of your concern and does not Condemn our Decade of Manly Decline Approves and accepts Manly Mediocrity
And as we all know if we lower our Legendary clubs Great Standards . We then stand for nothing Great.

Some of your critical concerns include ....
The Resigning of the Popular Arron Woods who will play a special mentor role as he did last season and will play a role in our NRL team when injury strikes as he did last season and we all saw how effective that role was in 2023
The Resigning of another popular player in Waddell who failed to get an extension with the struggling rebuilding bulldogs . The Dogs did not see Waddell as a solid building foundation of their future
The moral of the Popularity player story
We may win a Popularity contest with these two feel good popular players in our 2024 squad
But they they wont win us a premiership

Some may say we do not have the money to sign better players
The fact is we do not have the creativity to make room in our cap to sign better players or the creativity to unearth better talent

In conclusion
The club has made choices once again that will shape another season
The Fact is We all make choices in life that lead to the consequence of our existence
And Excuses for failure only reveal a Mediocre Character
2024 once more will reveal what our Manly Decision makes are made of once again

@Ryan Keep up your Passionate High standards
and Keep the Bastards Honest
Because we do not Want our Legendary clubs High Winning Standards be Bastardised
@The Wheel Please forward my post to all our Merry Manly Discission makers and wish them a Merry Christmas from me and tell them to lift their Standards

Pretty fair summation. Add to that we are paying $2.3mil for the 3 Trbojevics. 2 of them are constantly injured and Jake at best is just a tackling prop. Add to that the huge contracts for DCE , Schu (NSW cup standard) , Olakau'atu and Koula and it means not much left for the other 23 players.

I am hopeful that GCKT in the 14 will solve the hooker issue. The big wildcards for me are whether Turbo stays injury free, Schuster remembers how to play, and our props stand up.

If those three things happen, we can beat anyone.

The author seems to think more highly of Aloiai than Silvertails posters usually do. Interesting thoughts on Ray Stone and Jazz Tevaga though.
Adding any more players would require some players moved on eg Fulton etc - the problem is moving them onto where?
