Honouring contracts ..

Not the same at all but ... you assume all can-kickers are only after more money? Is that the only reason a player would ever be unhappy at a club?

Fair point about trying to replace a player 2 weeks out, but do you think clubs only ever try to shop players with plenty of notice?

Aside from your rare marquee type star, clubs hold all the aces in terms of bargaining power. This is the main reason behind the emergence of a class of dishonest manipulative opportunistic greedy amoral (but otherwise decent) player managers - an attempt by players to get a little more balance in the relationship with employers.

all that doesn't change the one fundamental difference ... one side is guaranteed full value of their contract ... the other side is being denied theirs ...

and no ... don't assume, that I assume players only leave for more money ... but generally if the player has a legitimate reason for wanting out ... eg family and compassionate reasons ... the clubs in recent years have been mostly accommodating .... allowing for negotiation of swap deals and timing etc

Have to disagree there mate. I think the gap (i.e. what it would take) to get a player to want a change of club has significantly decreased. The younger generation lacks character, staying power, loyalty and intestinal fortitude in my opinion.

It's why it's so hard to have affinity or connection with players anymore. Tell me, honestly, do you feel connected to this current playing group as much as you did say 10 years ago (for example)? There's probably 6-7 players on this entire team I actually like and enjoy (in the past it was 22-23 out of 25). But for me, it's not about the players, it's the club, emblem and jersey I support.

I think there are two other factors at play.

One is winning, we all feel a greater love for premiership winning eras and teams

The second is aging, we all mature, our lives get fuller, we go through hard times, we have families and football perhaps finds its place as something we love and enjoy but not the be all and end all (for me at least).

I'm not for the generational wars though. Our grand parents bemoaned our parents, our parents bemoaned our generation and we bemoan Gen Z.....there was no golden generation just people who view there own youth as such.

Long ramble cut short, I like this years bunch probably more than any team since 2013

Depends. If Gen Alpha are being parented by Millenial's, then I agree.
Lol wasn't serious, it's just my knee jerk response.
Whenever I hear blanket condemnations of (for example) younger generations I wonder, if they are lacking in some great qualities then ... who is to blame for that!
Like, "I brought up my kids perfectly yet they all turned into arseholes" @:D

Well you'd have a better idea than me from a player point of view.
But as an outsider my sympathy is usually with the player, no doubt they get promised this and that but will be cut/dropped/traded as soon as it suits the club.
Maybe not as ruthless here yet as in the big US sports but heading that way?

Player Contracts are like Marriage Prenups
You sign a contract and hope for the best
You sign a Prenup and hope for the best
All you have is a piece of paper of hope and no guarantees

The thing is though
We can try to raise our kids the best we can
But they may not turn out the best because they stray and listen to the rest
Oh, so the new meme...Not my fault

That is because they manage the cap better

We have the same salary cap
We also have different people managing it

That's what the NRL wants you to believe.

I have mentioned it before, I'm related to a former player that played with them for many years.
Daughter went to a very nice private school that he didn't fund.
The wife worked part time for double the pay as everyone else did full time.
Always drove nice cars
Got a great deal on a new apartment.

This is never going away until you have a points salary cap
Cash is easy to hide but you can't hide your points value.
Will help stop players changing clubs mid contract for unrealistic low dollars, they might get more money but their points value can't change.
