This has to be one of the most shocking things i've read in a while.

MELBOURNE detectives had little knowledge of the Pandora's Box they were about to unlock when they began investigating a Melbourne grandfather over child pornography charges in May last year.
The sexual crimes squad was alerted to the allegations against Michael John Neal, 48, by case workers at the Department of Human Services.

What appeared to be a run-of-the-mill investigation turned out to be a much wider probe that took police on an eye-opening journey through the seedy underbelly of Melbourne's gay community.

It opened up a perverse world of high-risk sex where the human immunodeficiency virus, HIV, was often an accepted risk, sometimes worn by carriers, such as Mr Neal, as a badge of honour.

Exposed was a bizarre culture inhabited by "bug chasers" - healthy men actively seeking to be infected with HIV - and "breeders" who infected them at depraved "conversion parties".

One veteran detective said he had no idea of the bounds the investigation would reach.

"I had no thoughts about how wide this issue was until investigating the matter," he told the Herald Sun. "I'd describe it as surprisingly shocking."

The police operation, codenamed Spode, would result in the arrest and charging of the HIV-positive father of five with more than 100 charges, including attempting to infect a person with a very serious disease, intentionally infecting a person and rape.

It's their choice and not for us to judge. It is normal behaviour isn't it? Just an alternate exression of humanity.

I don't hold it against homo's. There choice and as long as I'm no where near it then who cares.

But these parties to contracts aids. Thats just sick. And no, they shouldn't be getting subsidised health care if they intentionally contract the disease.

redneck

You're being a bigot - imposing your moral standards on people who are entitled to free choice.

I've got no problems with people being Homosexual. I have no problems with people who accidentally contract aids.

I do, however, have a problem with hundreds of thousands of tax payers money going to people who actively seek to become HIV positive so it can be worn as a status symbol.

If that makes me a red-neck than fair enough.

its no different to other similar psychological problems.

This is just one of the things that some people do. I blame their parents

You guys are talking about gays.

Im talking about the deliberate spreading of the HIV virus.

Your not guaranteed to need any form of medical treatment for either of those. However, I don't believe smokers should get tax funded relief for their problems. Unless they are off the generation that was non the wise to smokings dangers.

Its also very hard to compare obesity with deliberately spreading AIDS.

On foxtel over the last few months there has been lots of specials on Ice and this sort of thing was talked about in a number of the shows. Ice is massive within the gay community and apparantly bug chasing is a massive problem.

Also mentioned how some of the men are married with kids and have given the disease to their wives. Those are the ones that should be shot.

garts, its all propoganda. Ice is bad in all parts of society it effects all ppl differently.
You will find Ecstacy and Amyl are more your drugs of choice in the gay community coupled with speed and coke.

I wouldn't be that concerned unless
1- you are having a lot of unprotected sex with strangers
2 - you are having sex with me
3 - you are attending the parties yourself.

I don't think cigarettes should be sold. However the government get too much tax from them to want to put laws against it. And, it would open up a black market for tabaco. What you can't control you can at least make money from.

Alcohol doesn't have to be dangerous. Although I understand today's culture doesn't lend towards that opinion.

Might as well take the same approach to the full spectrum of addictive drugs then. Why is there one rule for tobacco and another for the rest?

I can't answer that one. But I do believe injection rooms are a step in the right direction. Its like street prostitution vs Government legislated brothels. Their going to do it whether we like it or not, at least lets make it safer.
