Good question so I just checked - they are players from Provan's era which finished in 1965. Fulton began in 1966.

This is so dumb.
I’ll elaborate.

1) the NRL egregiously presumes there is a heaven.

2) it then further presumes that the listed players were admitted to heaven.

3) it is likely that not all players from the era are dead. This is unfair on players that are still alive. Effectively they are excluded from the team because they are not dead yet.

4) the years chosen are arbitrary, and do not evenly cover the careers of players named. Churchill is earlier than the rest. It is like naming Eadie as the fullback for a 90s era team.

5) as pointed out by others, there are legends of the era that are omitted.

6) Hornby’s opinion on the matter was sought and published.

7) it is a saints/wests “best of” beaten up to be all-encompassing. It is a laughable attempt to honour Provan.

8)Such a cynical exercise diminishes the NRL, showing its lack of judgement when discussing the game’s history.

Billy Wilson is St George/ North Sydney

Clay is Newtown / St George

YET Eddie Lumsden is not listed as Manly / St George

... typical of Muddleton who openly discriminates against Manly, for example Beaver’s try count is split between manly and nth eagles, yet he counts the St George premierships along with St George-Illawarra.
