Des has only played for Australia as a half. Best half I ever played with or against!!!! (I didn't play for Aust if it looks like I am implying that!!!)

Probably a guy called Mick Aldous who played lower grades with the Tigers in the early 80s. He got the rep job over Des one season and Des was a reserve back (I was in the team - on the wing - where it don't matter!!!!)

So I guess he didn't have much competition then

No - was a very level comp with people like Bill Annabel, John Muggleton, Ross Conlon, Steve Thompson playing.

Was in the days of the old 13 import rule so you had to be a gun to even get a look in if you weren't a city junior.

Was that union or league that you played?

13 import rule!!!! It was League Stupid. Each Sydney club (there were 12) was only allowed to have 13 players that played Junior footy outside their area.

If that rule existed today a few clubs (like the Roosters) would be totally stuffed.

Mind you they would just bring younger players to Sydney to get around the rule.
