Manly's big win over the Tigers on Saturday was a great way for the club to finish up their preseason trials. A strong NRL side performed well across the park and the players laid a solid platform with which to launch season proper.
Assistant Coach Dennis Moore was happy with the way the match went.
"Overall very good, we treated it very much as a trial, making sure everyone got game time and we ran through our plays. Pleasing to start with."
"Everyone has put themselves in the picture by their performances. That’s all you can ask from them is that they all have a crack and put themselves in the picture and they did. So now we've got to pick a side, which is going to be pretty tough"
A strong 48-28 result by the Premier League side has ensured that the pressure is right on the top team to perform.
"Everyone put their hand up to say they wanted to play first grade, so its going to be a selection headache." Moore said with a level of excitement.
Coach Des Hasler started the NRL side with Matt Orford in at half, Michael Monaghan at five eighth and Shayne Dunley at hooker. When Dunley was rested Monaghan slotted into hooker and JP Cherry came on as five eighth. Both combinations proved to be very successful and as a result has probably put more questions on the selection table than answers.
"There were a few combinations used during the game. JP Cherry came through with flying colours. Monas was good at six and nine." Moore said.
"Matty Ballin had a great game at nine in the Premier League as well, so its thrown up more options for us, which is great."
Manly halfback Matt Orford was positive about the result and believes that there is definitely more to come from the side.
"It was a big improvement from the previous weekend. We can't get too carried away because it was only a trial but I think there were some good signs there."
"Combinations are starting to happen; it's just going to take a bit of time."
"We will take some confidence out of that game and keep working on things at training." Orford explained.
When asked about his partnership in the halves Orford was happy with the number options available and commended both five eighths on their game.
"Monas was great to play with and so was JP, so its going to be tough for the coaching selection, both guys have put their hand up and are playing good footy at the moment."
"That’s the great thing about the club, great depth and they are all quality players."
The Sea Eagles have got through the game without any major injuries and expect that everyone will be available for selection against the Raiders in two weeks.
