Georgalis takes no prisoners

frank stokes

I discriminate indiscriminately
Steve Georgalis has drawn a massive line in the sand at Belmore and showed that he is not going to accept poor effort on his watch...
After that p*ss weak effort against Warriors last week when half the dogs were looking for a kennel after half time the coach has dropped Jack Cogger, Reimus Smith, Tim Lafai and the pommy international Luke Thompson to the reserves list whilst he booted Jake Averillo and Sauaso Sue from the squad completely...
He might be there for a short time but SG has shown that he is not gonna accept mediocrity under his watch... will be interesting to see how some of those guys go if/when they get back into the team...

The moral of the story ....
When you persist with mediocre players they eventually drag the rest of the team to a mediocre level

Agree. He needs one win coming home to avoid the spoon as I have the feeling the Broncs may lose out. I’m really cheering for the dogs now but my only worry is their win might come against us!

good on him.

dunno if he'd do it if he wasn't an outgoing coach

but anyway, gives the rest of us a chance to see how the tactic goes!
I agree I actually doubt he would drop them all if he was the reg coach as it wouldn’t do much for morale and attitude. At the moment he has nothing to lose (other than getting the spoon), he drops players and then they win it was the right call. they keep losing and well same same and nobody cares anyway and he then just drops more and recalls players. Plus by dropping so many at least it gets attention as nobody else gives a rats about the dogs running last.

I take your point but it still takes balls GE... he has worked with these players for an extended period of time (maybe not the Pommy) but he has still looked them in the eye and said "not good enough"...

I disagree @Waz13... it would show that if you work hard enough then you get a chance and if you don't work hard enough you lose your opportunity...
for every Milford there is a Dearden waiting in the wings and losing becomes way too comfortable if there is no impact on your livelihood...

Our record at anz stadium suggest that

I didn't watch their last match but I've seen Luke Thompson a few times and rate him highly. He has been one of their few success stories this season so I'm amazed he has been dropped.
Did he play that poorly against the Worriers?

Please, he's a career assistant who's been put in as caretaker for the team running stone cold last. It's already known that Barrett won't be keeping him on next year, as he wants to bring his own coaching support staff.
So all well and good, but you can't say Aha! that's what we should do.
Well you can say it, but I don't buy it 🙂

Yeah fair enough. I guess my point probably relates more to the point in the season we are at and current circumstances. I doubt he’d drop that many if he was the reg coach on a 3 year deal in round 5 of a 26round season. Maybe he would who knows. Didn’t he drop 6? Just seems a bit over the top imo.

Totally different circumstances. The Dogs are last and SG is on the way out, much easier to go scorched earth.
At the moment we're still mathematically a chance of the 8 (although realistically not possible) and Des is here next year so needs to manage relationships with that consideration.
Caveat: I'm not saying he's doing a good job of that, just that it's a consideration that SG doesn't really have as Baz will have to sort it out next year.

I don't think it should have got to the point where scorched earth was necessary... players should have been consistently dropped for poor performance all year... 1-3 players does not destroy your structures and may actually improve them - I agree 6 is scorched earth and probably over the top but geez it sends a message that there is a new sheriff in town lol

Demonstrates that he wont accept mediocrity and shows that he is willing to make the tough calls regardless of reputation...
Yep... unfortunately for the Dawgs, he has been punted from the joint by the great one... and dropping underperforming players was certainly not a Barrett trait when he coached here. The irony of it all is bloody marvellous.

You stretched that 'logic' a long way to reinforce a tightly-held prejudice...

...imagine my surprise... #sarcasm

That's the difference between you and me KW... I held Twent just as accountable for his decisions (eg Tom Wright) as I do Des... I discriminate indiscriminately...
