Gansters riff in rugby league ..

No one condones grub conduct.

But Don what do they say about Stones and Glass Houses.

Henry Alesia the bloke that was just banned from footy for 12 months after being found to be the instigator of that Blue where a Manly player was found to be defending himself was a former Junior Rep player at your Raiders!
I think the bigger issue here is the gangster culture infiltrating the whole game .. NOT .. one club ..

Furner is expressing much wider concerns

We are missing the point people.. it's not about a manly player .. or one incident ..

Does rugby league have a junior gangster wannabe culture or not .. and is manly infested

Also raises the question of where are the ground officials when these incidents happen. According to the report there was a group of teenagers sitting behind the Manly bench giving it to the players. Then one of them hit the Manly player in the head before he reacted. Sounds like it could have been avoided if the ground officials or the adults on the Manly bench had been proactive and taken action earlier.

A member of the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles’ Harold Matthews Cup coaching staff has been issued with a hefty breach notice.

Regardless of whether ground officials were proactive or who mouthed off at who, the fact stands that our juniors have been involved two violent incidents in as many weeks. Throw in the predicament young Fainu found himself in and there would seem to be some issues with violence at the junior level of our club at least. It may well be prevalent at other clubs but I don't really care about them. That **** is not what Manly is about and should be stamped out. Leave that **** for the Eels and Dogs.

Just putting something out there...
Last year under McEwen with a lot more Western Sydney players there were zero incidents.
This year our Matthews side is for a better word "whiter" with more local juniors and has less players from Western Sydney......
Maybe people should not be claiming it is a regional problem and maybe the coaching staff need to be more accountable?
If there are (IF)a couple of bad individuals that should not tar the rest of the squad

Joe, from what Furner said, some games are not scheduled at particular grounds because of anticipated problems with rival gangs ... if that is true then a problem exists beyond the players... friends, associates and the fan base comes into question.

And I am not specifically talking about Manly here .. all clubs may have a greater or lesser issue..

What games are you talking about?
I would have thought that rep games like Matthews and Ball are held at the same grounds....
Brookie or Laybutt for our home games and the same for other clubs.
Is he talking about lower levels of junior league,eg district football?
I cannot talk about gang issues, because the issues at this early point seem to be related to fans abusing players and young immature individuals reacting like children do to the taunts.
The speculation about gang violence at junior grounds needs to be proven before anyone has any real idea and until the clubs dig deeper as he is wanting then it is unknown and individuals will just let their imaginations and prejudices run wild.

I may be wrong but still think he is reacting to a incident which has no doubt had a negative impacted at his club and on its supporters and having a quiet swipe at Man.

He isn't attacking violence in the crowd as the issue to be fixed. But gangs.

He's not saying 12 months suspension for a player fighting the other week wasn't harsh enough, ban them for life and send the message look what happened here as well.

He is saying It's the gang members playing for clubs or watching games which are the problem.

He may know more about recent incidents than we do.

But gee the solutions on how the NRL stop players that have a gang association joining or being allowed into watch will be interesting.

Independent back ground checks on juniors?

Are gang members wearing identifiable motifs or colours which the NRL bans from attending games?

I May be wrong but still think he is upset over an incident and throwing stones our clubs and just may be where our new junior pool comes from.

At this point the 2 incidents involving our club seem to be Raiders fans in the crowd baiting our players and our guys stupidly taking the bait.
If there are gang undertones then he needs to provide some proof and maybe he will, who knows at this point....

Not sure.. he simply claimed ..

"staff who worked in junior development had for some years spoken privately about some clubs being forced to change venues so they weren't played in a postcode zone of a rival gang "

his article was more of a warning and call for the nrl to monitor the situation.. to go as public as he did he must have real concerns

I know these Riffs @Woodsie speaks of...CAN YOU DIG IIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTT?!?!?!

All things may be true .. I don't think this is just a manly thing.. I don't think Furner does either.

Pss .. and this may have little to do with the players .. and more to do with gang members "adopting" their teams ..

Have we played Canberra twice in a few weeks? Sorry, just trying to catch up on what's been happening. Wasn't there an incident against Manly & Canberra a few weeks ago when the CEO of Manly came out saying no case to answer? Is this a redo of the same story ? Like no real stories but lets make news by bagging Manly again?

The first incident was an ex raider at a Ball trial between the Eagles and bunnies at Erskineville baiting Fotu

So it is maybe not infiltrating clubs, maybe just numpties turning up to games and causing trouble?
Sounds like a quick fix to increase security at venues(particularly around players) and maybe ensuring clubs have minders at games to keep things under control.(Might be harder to do at district level but that is not the clubs area, that is NSWRL to sort)
Any players displaying proven gang affiliation get interviewed by the integrity unit, would not want to rely on the police for infotel as their heads are too far up their butts to have any real Intel.
