The tellycap today has a story quoting the raiders CEO saying that wannabe gansters are riff hanging around the juniors .. and that it is a real concern

I would ask Serb8 or cceagle to reproduce the story but both are terrible lackies .. so I need to fall back on old faithful @globaleagle for assistance ..

I'm currently unable to post anything from the DT as they've worked out my sneakiness.

I'm a worse lackey than those other two. I wish Happily Manly was still here!

Here's the headline

‘Wannabe gangsters’: Canberra Raiders NRL club boss wants junior thugs stamped out

After another ugly weekend of alleged violence at junior representative rugby league, an NRL club boss wants a strategy to stamp out thugs on and off the field.

Fed-up Canberra Raiders chief Don Furner has hit out at some Sydney NRL clubs for allowing “wannabe gangsters” to run wild at junior representative football, claiming it is creating a culture of fear among players, parents and fans.
And Furner now wants the issue to be tackled at the next NRL chief executives’ conference so the entire game can work on a strategy to stamp out thugs on and off the field.

While not pointing the finger at any particular clubs, Furner’s comments come after another ugly weekend of alleged violence that sadly marred the opening round of the under 17s Harold Matthews Cup competition.

The latest incident being investigated by the NSWRL alleges a Manly under 17s player jumped the fence post match and bashed a Canberra spectator at the Raiders’ Belconnen facility. The alleged victim is said to be a year 12 student at a Canberra high school who had to be treated by the club doctor after the incident left him looking “visibly rocked”, with concerns he was displaying signs of concussion.

I find it noticeable that Furner stops short of actually saying that teams have some of these ganster wannabes playing for their clubs .. but the omission only highlights the association.

If one of our juniors did that, turf him
the way i read it, it's more than one person and now its been on more than one occasion. THis is a real issue with our recruitment targets. No surprise Penrith either.

I'm only going off the article, specifically

No one condones grub conduct.

But Don what do they say about Stones and Glass Houses.

Henry Alesia the bloke that was just banned from footy for 12 months after being found to be the instigator of that Blue where a Manly player was found to be defending himself was a former Junior Rep player at your Raiders!

"former" the key word. They'll say yeah he was trouble so we ditched him. (ie. not that good a player!)

Just a guess...alleged victim was a Canberra HS year 12 student, probably mouthed off at Manly players after a bad loss for Manly and forgot that he wasn't trolling on facebook and that he could get himself into trouble.
I am not condoning in any way what happened and young guys need to pull their head in particularly when everyone has a phone nowadays, but maybe the current generation has forgotten how to behave outside interacting on their phones and forget that actions in the real world have serious consequences?

I read somewhere that he was sitting with a bunch of girls who were shooting their mouths off. He may have been unlucky being the only bloke in the group.

Smokin Joe is right. We have young ones and some not so young that think they can say whatever they like, no matter how nasty, without ramification and do it online. A bit like loud mouths shouting out of passing vehicles. Whilst I don't condone the response if you poke a lion why would you be surprised that he bit you. As a side I was in Brisbane a few years back with some of my Rugby mates to watch the Wallabies play France. We went to the Gold Coast a few days early to play golf and to have a few million beers. On the Saturday mid morning we were driving through Brisbane CBD after driving up from the Gold Coast (seriously hung over) and we saw a group of the French forwards in their track suits, out and about for a walk they were giants. One of the our group (now retired but a deputy school principal at the time and should have known better) leans out the window and screams something at them in French. They started running after the car looking really really angry. We screamed at the driver to go he was slowing down to stop an an intersection. It turns out the goose in our car called them swines in french. Fortunately they didn't catch the car.
