I might be a bit thick but I seem to be missing something here. Are we just talking about the GDT where posters are commenting/venting during the game? Or are we talking about all threads on game day (or any other day for that matter)? Coz anyone who feels they have ceased participating with ST coz of the negativity, could use any number of threads as a reason for dropping out. Not just the Game Day Thread. If it IS just the GDT, I can sort of see why a so called dark mode thread might be of interest to some. However, is it really necessary to make it by invitation only?? I joined the site to have a conversation and to read and take on board (or not) other Manly supporters views. I don't understand why someone can't just start a thread with that title on game day and people can make their own decision to participate or not. The alternative where you are "invited" and maybe a secret hand shake and an encrypted chip is required, sounds a bit odd. On Sunday I wrote that the slagging off of the team by some seemed over the top given what I saw when I watched the replay. I'm not sure if thats an example of being "vanilla" @Ryan coz it's just an opinion and would hope that those that didn't agree would take it or leave it as I would their less positive view. Anyway, I don't care 2 toodles if people want to vent their spleen. But an invite only thread to allow people to let loose with what exactly, I'm not sure, sounds like something Alex and his Droogs might be invited to join 😂. Anyway, I find it all a bit odd.

I'm sorry, but I will not be making a second Game Day thread.

However, as SeaEagleRock8 has suggested in Post #6 to this thread, I am willing to create a "Conversation, and inviting only selected dark brotherhood characters" titled 'Game Day Thread (Dark Mode)' and each week on game day before the game starts, I will copy all of the usual Game Day thread Post #1 information to the conversation.

If you wish to take part in this 'Game Day Thread (Dark Mode)' conversation, then please request your invitation via this current thread and quote either this post or me and I will add you to the conversation.
I have added Ryan and Soup to the conversation without either of them requesting an invite but they can opt out whenever they wish.

The Game Day (Dark Mode) conversation is open to anyone that requests an invite and it is also open to those members to opt out of the conversation at any time that they like so I can't see the big deal.

Who exactly has said they’ve left the forum due to too much negativity?

Isn’t that just people expressing their opinions?

Surely a bit of disagreement isn’t the end of the world?

It sounds like Ryan wants his own thread where he can enforce his negative views without encountering any opposing views, which isn’t too far removed from censorship.
Until this ...... I'd made the choice to lurk and no longer post. My decision was mainly because I see people like @Ryan (and others) being hassled by a few people on here just for what appear to me to be putting forward reasonable interpretations of our clubs decade of failure. The whole narrative by a few (I call them the gang of 5) on here that ST has become too negative and was turning people away was for my mind just bullshxt. This attitude has actually turned me off posting anything.

For me supporting a footy team is just an outlet and is about the highs and the lows. Many years ago I originally came to a place like this to share the highs and also vent on the lows. Just like I would if I was at the ground, in the pub or wherever. When people were / are being howled down and hassled by the gang of 5 about their perceived "negative" comments bringing everyone down ....... I just thought enough is enough. It actually does feel like there is a loose echo chamber of censorship happening.

Anyway, I'll put my head down again and just go back to lurking. I just wanted you to know that I was one of the people that had had recently reached out and had PM'd Ryan about this. I believe that there are others as well.

Yep, and for any smart arse comment I get. Thanks for the feedback I won't let the door hit me on the way out ........ right back at ya.

Please add me to the list of people who can access "dark / realistic mode"

No big deal to me really, I just don't see the need. This is the only forum/social media thingo I'm on so I'll put it down to my own innocence Jethro 😂. I'm a simple man - I read something, I write something. Each to their own. 👍

I saw this exact same thing happen on a boxing forum I posted on for near a decade & it killed the forum within weeks.

The most argumentative poster on that forum was a kiwi who went full anti-Trumptard & constantly baited US posters on US politics.

It got so bad that he was following around a couple of pro-Trump posters, literally begging them to argue with him (under the guise of wanting rational debate, of course). The guys he was pestering just ignored or laughed at him & it drove him nuts.

He eventually asked for the mods to ban those guys (& others) from the long running US politics thread, claiming they added nothing worthwhile.

Before the mods could do anything, those guys & many others started their own US politics thread & abandoned the original one, leaving the agitator to enjoy his echo chamber. He then started posting in the new thread but nobody responded to him & he lost his **** bigtime, started hurling personal insults & accusations of racism, pedophilia, etc around. Basically anything to get a reaction.

The mods didn’t ban him like they should have because some of them believed his claims of “adding net value” to the site.

Behind the scenes, the forum owner had had enough & quietly sold the site to some megasite company that turned it into an advertising forum.

All because one insecure poster wasn’t getting the response he wanted from everyone else.

You mark my words, this won’t have a happy ending.

Oof, I hope I'm not that political guy to you 47. Is that what I'm reading here ?

I for one enjoy your posts....not to mention your profile pic 🤔 😂

I don't post as much, but not at the lurking stage.

I chat footy with @Ryan outside of this site (we have differing opinions on certain things, but we just gel).

I love, amongst other things, his passion for our team, and that he always looks for ways the team (and our community on here) can be better.

Try not to lurk too much in the future.

I just find it all very unfortunate @NREagle that this discussion is even being had. I put it down to my own blissful ignorance of what a footy forum was going to be like. I read both negative and positive posts (also open to its own interpretation) and just move on from the ones that don't interest me.

The fact that there is now considered a need to start an invite group to talk about footy of all things, makes me think these things aren't really for me.

Everything is as it always was. You just get to choose if you want to read / view / experience a more critical view.

Empowering by being given choice isn't a restriction, it's a benefit.
