The others – Dennis Sandow, Junior Palau and Phil Morwood – will join Muir at Stockland Park today as the Sea Eagles attempt to beat the Mackay Cutters to progress through the first week of the Queensland Cup semi-finals.
Usually a back-rower, Muir has found himself at right centre in recent weeks as the Sea Eagles have struggled with injuries.
While only two Manly contracted players – Daly Cherry-Evans and Palau – will pull on Sunshine Coast jerseys today, Muir said the team was riding a wave of confidence.
“It’s good to have that depth in the club,” he said yesterday.
“We’ve got a lot of good players and to have those guys playing in reserves is a bonus for us. When we need them they go up and do the job.
“There’s that much confidence going around. We’re a tight bunch who are playing for each other.”
Sunshine Coast dismantled a flat Mackay 40-12 last weekend in the last round of the regular season, but Muir was expecting the Cutters to be a different proposition today.
“We know they’ll be a totally different side and we’ve trained all week to take on a different side,” he said. “This week’s a totally new challenge. Semi-finals are different.”
Muir, 28, said he and the other three premiership players would assume a leadership role throughout the Coast’s finals campaign.
“It’s pretty important for the few guys that were here last year to step up a notch,” he said.
“The young guys have a bit of experience playing finals, but it’s a different level.
“It means a lot to everyone to be here and we’ll definitely take a leadership role in the team.”
Sunshine Coast must win to progress to next weekend’s preliminary finals round.
Souths Logan host Norths tomorrow, with the loser to face the winner of today’s Sunshine Coast-Mackay match. The winner of the Souths-Norths match will host the winner of tomorrow’s clash between Northern Pride and Wynnum Manly.
