Future is bright without DCE

I'm really hoping dce hasn't got a contract lined up for next year..... Imagine how much harder the bloke will play the rest of this season if his form decides how many zeros are on his next contract....

Always a huge fan of dce, always will be, but happy for him to move on... My only annoyance with it is I wish he made this call last year so humphries didn't leave for souths... But oh well, on we move...

I just hope whoever plays 7 next year gets the same benefit of a long list of excuses that DCE was afforded by the ST faithful every time he played below par. We don't have a good 6, forwards didn't lay platform, Turbo was injured, it was windy, coach is useless, sun was in my eyes, we don't have a good hooker, opposition targeted him, etc, etc. I'll be interested to see if the level of forgiveness extends to the new boy or not. God I hope he can kick field goals too, as that seems to mask other deficiencies quite well around here

I look forward to logging into MVP thread every week next season and dropping 3 points on our new 7 because he "tried his guts out"
Welcome back Chip

Aaaahhh we have endured
Made me laugh though.

Should move him on early still. Just do it
Go to the dogs for this season and then the chooks for 26

take a walk on the board to mayfair
Collecting water works and elec company on the way past

Surely someone with skills could monolpoly man his head cartoon style pretty easy.
He seems ripe for it

Remember i just do the ideas

He’s gone , good riddance , the sooner we stop talking about him the better.

He’ll play the rest of this year , he should put in , he might not , there’s zero chance of winning the GF with this hanging over the teams head , so let’s enjoy the games we win ( hopefully it’s more than 2) , but the sooner this is over and we’ve moved on the better.

Agreed Bozo. He's been one of Manly's greats. Would be insulting to allow him to go out with negativity. He gave his all during one of Manly's most difficult periods. Without him I suspect we would have earned one or two spoons. No matter his choice now, he deserves our admiration and respect. Hopefully he wont be lost from the Sea Eagles nest and will return hopefully in a coaching position, or administrative post. I'll certainly miss him from our team but life goes on and comes a time for the next generation to take on the reins. Hopefully we'll be admiring the skills of Walsh and Large leading the side around the paddock in a year or two. LIfe moves on.

But that wasn't 'last Friday', it was the previous week. Last Sunday our Jersey Flegg team with the same halves was belted by Canberra.
Even if any one of Joey Walsh, Callum Dowell or Onitoni Large emerge as long term NRL halves, this is years away. Large is playing SG Ball U19s. Walsh has played 2 games of U21s.
I want to buy into the positive messaging, but let's be a little realistic. None of these kids can 'replace' DCE next year, or for some time to come.
Cherry was the best half in the NYC in 2009, but was sent to Sunshine Coast (our feeder club then) for a year to play against men in Queensland Cup.
Remember Latu Fainu was awarded the biggest contract for a 16 year old - by Manly. He is yet to prove himself - with Wests. There are no guarantees in junior rep stars coming through.
Agree, Walsh particularly will not be ready until at least 2027, and perhaps not even then.

Did not stop Riff last year when Luai signed with Tigpies… or the year before when Crichton signed with dogs… or the year before when…

You get the picture anyway…. players are probably a LOT more accepting of football being a business than fans are and might possibly adopt the “one last ride” approach… we will see I guess..

I think we still have a solid enough team to get by for a year or 2 if we can just have someone in there to do a job. As mentioned, we could do worse than having Fogarty and I also don't mind the idea of Lehi in the halves.

Or maybe we get the Fainu brother package back @:D
Latu maybe worthwhile - he's going nowhere at Wests.

No Player has Ever been awarded these honors without trying their guts out feathered friend

In fact not many players in their career reach these great heights
Only the Elite ones do
And this is why they earn their Elite Dollars

So since 2015 all he has won are club awards ? You may as well throw in the Silvertails MVP awards on that list. Seriously.

Show me the premierships, or even the GF appearances. Show me the Dally M awards. Show me the Golden Boot awards. Show me the RLPA awards. Show me anything since he signed a million dollar 10 year contract. Granted he's played for QLD but he had to wait out Cronk and Thurston before getting a sniff.

He's solid, but far from elite feathered friend. Elite delivers. Elite stands out from the crowd. Elite dollars didn't bring elite performance in this case. We can finally move on now, for which I am thankful.

EDIT - Thank you for proving my point again with your photo below of his achievement in the year 2011 as part of a very, very good Manly side of which he was a small cog. He thought his cog got bigger after 2015 but the chain kept slipping off. But please follow up with a photo of him with SOO trophy as is your usual want, something equally as irrelevant to his weekly performances for Manly.

Thank you for your views feathered friend
We all have our opinions
But Money Talks and Elite players earn the Money as they can Walk the Talk

What does Walk the Talk really mean?
putting your words into action—showing that you mean what you say by actively doing it yourself

Hey all that did happen @:D
As for now I think I'm joining the Chip'n'Jbb team, get outta here Daly you can't Captain the side if Manly is the only team you're determined not to play for next year!

Below are snippets I took from an article with the full link below, not much to it but where there is smoke..

An insider has revealed the snub that led to Daly Cherry-Evans' decision to ditch the Sea Eagles next season - and that Wests Tigers young gun Lachlan Galvin is the player the club want to replace him in the halves from 2026 onwards

Tigers rising star Galvin is the player Manly have reportedly earmarked to replace Cherry-Evans.

They can't officially table an offer to the youngster until November 1, when he is off-contract at the joint venture club.

Daily Mail Australia is also not suggesting any representative from the Sea Eagles has approached Galvin or his management.

Galvin's agent is Isaac Moses, whose other clients include Sea Eagles head coach Anthony Siebold, head of recruitment Peter Gentle as well as forward Ethan Bullemor, halfback Brooks and outside back Tommy Talau.

I cannot see Manly signing Galvin as his asking price would have to be at least the same as Brown ($1.3M per season) or more. If we could only afford to offer DCE $750k & have upgraded a number of our players contracts, therefore there is no where near that amount of cash left to splash aroud. Off-loading players would be the only option.

Well said.

Very interesting @Dion Johnson
If that comes to pass, I will be the first to call Gentle & Co forward-thinking recruitment geniuses.
Secondly, we could be looking at a spine that resembles the one assembled below.

Possible 2027 Spine
9. Muagututia
7. Galvin
6. Brooks
1. Hopoate

Possible 2028 Spine
9. Muagututia
7. Walsh
6. Galvin
1. Hopoate

Offloading Turbo, Burbo and Jurbo after 2026 would allow for that @Sea Eagle 4 Life .............. with change.
Just playing Devil's advocate of course @;)
