Frustrating game lacking resilience

First Grader
Firstly Manly were expecting to just rock up and "outscore" NZ
Well to play the flash you need to Win the bash
Manly didn't handle the physical exchanges and the latitude given to the NZ defence, where the champion teams take on the bad calls and get pi""ed off, showing the resilience to simply bash the opposition and when getting the footy back, play a smart direct set to win field position and get back into the grind....instead of throwing the ball sideways hoping to run "around" the opposition often leading to mistakes or minimal gain....
Not the end of the world, but shows an element that has reared its head often in recent seasons, Manly win big against the soft sides, but when the opposition is rugged and plays physical, ugly football...look for the easy way out playing sideways and things go from bad to worse...
Resilience is 1 word but I'm sure there are many more....just seemed too familiar and was hoping 2025 this area in Manly's game would improve

resilience comes from the attitude, the standards and accountability of you leaders. Our leaders play a high risk game .

Winning is a journey and our leaders only know the short cut home because they dont practice it on field

We have tried to recruit it in brown, tko etc but they are not calling the shots or on the field long enough. Cant imagine them giving our leaders a rocket either

There's not alot to like about this side in almost every position, very fragile, soft and inconsistent or just plain ordinary.

Yes it's our major problem for the last decade. No defensive resolve, cannot grind out and defend when things go against us. Even the wins we've had we gave up easy points when the opposition get a bit of ball in our zone. Don't ever, see it changing until we find players who can dig deep and tackle their way out of trouble.

And there is 1 common denominator, who has been in a leasership position to demand from others, and also physically supply a grafting, grinding style of play....the kind of play that just keeps on winning comps.

It's a shame he can't/won't buy into it.

I think it was our inability to score points today that cost us. We had plenty of ball and in good field position in the first half hour and never really looked like scoring.

We were largely rudderless today.

We have 3 main playmakers in this team:
  • Turbo is our chief playmaker. He's out.
  • DCE was playing like he's disinterested right now, same as last week.
  • Brooks who is a runner and has never been comfortable being an organiser or playmaker.

Brooks had to take over being the playmaker today through circumstance beyond his control, and while he did step up and I thought was our best player out there, its not his game to be "the guy".

Wow, fancy expecting the qld captain, Aussie representative half-back, and Bozo love-child to actually take responsibility for his team... lol

Lack punch in the middle and second phase play, the player with most post contact meters this season is Hoppa with 380 meters, Haumole 361 meters, Bully 248 meters and Jake 133 meters, Jake made 71 of those post contact meters in two games and 62 post contact meters in the other four games.

The forwards really need to work on an offload or two..
