Former Parramatta Eels manager Jason Irvine has fronted court over alleged dodgy dealings worth nearly $90,000 linked to the NRL club's salary cap scandal.

The 42-year-old appeared in Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday accused of creating a fake sponsorship agreement and using false invoices.

Irvine faces two separate charges including knowingly dealing with proceeds of crime worth $72,000 between December 2014 and March 2015 at Parramatta.

Police also allege he used false invoices and the fake sponsorship agreement to deceptively obtain $17,490 from the Parramatta Leagues Club.
The Eels were stripped of 12 competition points and fined $1 milllion in 2016 after they were found guilty by the NRL of cheating the salary cap.

An NRL investigation discovered Parramatta funnelled cash to players through inflated invoices and third-party payments.

Brian Canavan, NRL head of football, on Tuesday suggested the league's integrity unit was continuing to investigate the Eels scandal.

"It's unsettling for the game, but it's all with the integrity department," he said.

"It's always a positive step when the police take action...

"They've obviously got their information. Their information is beyond what we, as the NRL, have."

Irvine, who has been granted bail, is the first person charged by police over the scandal. He was arrested at Leichhardt on Monday.

He also faces a third charge of perverting the course of justice in relation to a driving infringement.

Irvine is scheduled to reappear in court on April 4

I note this fellow has only been charged. No rulings from a court.

But I do find it interesting that one of the charges against this parra boss alleges knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime. Wow. This may be an interesting case to ready in a couple of years time.
