Fan Day - lack thereof

I have to say I'm quite disappointed we've had no pre-season Fan Day this year. The one held last February at Rat Park, where there were various activities and we met the players, etc, for 2 or 3 hours was so enjoyable and surely such an event would boost the membership drive.

Yes, there's a Season Launch this week (at $250/head!) and yes, there's a kids' clinic on today but what about something for the non-wealthy passionate Manly fans to kick off the season?! Rant over!!

I remember back in the 80s about a week or two before the season there was a free fans day where all the teams attended. I went to a few at Lidcombe Oval. I think the Telegraph had something to do with it as you took a voucher in from the paper you got a snag on a roll and a can of drink free.

Could still do something like that, maybe all the Sydney teams could go to Olympic Park and the out of Sydney teams to their home ground, but instead of being free the NRL would probably try and charge $20 these days.

I took my kids to one back in 2011 at Narrabeen and it was a great day where all the players took time to chat and have their photos taken with my boys. Not much effort but it goes a long way to making memories for kids and big kids alike.......

Believe it or not, 'most' fans are not either....but that's probably how they're thinking too.

Is it any wonder! For a minimal effort, a whole lot more could be recruited....but I guess that's using common sense
