Expansive play

In the DVD out with today's Tele Orford is interviewed and he reckons we will play a far more expansive game to take advantage of the speed men out wide.

I have no problems with this provided we don't go wide early to the exclusion of go-forward. Otherwise we'll be crabbing all over the field running at 6s and 7s with Monaghan throwing the ball into the crowd 10 times a game.

Punch it up for the first two, run from dummy half and then go wide will be a good formula. I'd love to have a BK to do the offloads to a flying Lyon and Bullet - perhaps Kite and rose have been doing some off-season work on the one-hander?

Where did you get the DVD???

I agree with your take on the play. The forwards help compress defense towards the center of the field to block holes where forwards could get the one armer away to a quick man. Like you said if we go wide early with no forward structure where not going to stretch the defense as much and pure speed won't cut it.
