It hasn't received much coverage since the season kicked off but star backs Brett Stewart and Steve Matai are taking up a fair chunk of the club's salary cap this year, meaning the squad has effectively been playing with a handicap from the start of the year.

"I think that [salary cap issue] is something that has gone very unnoticed," Cherry-Evans said

Snake and Matai were out most of 2016 as well.

Players just need to do their bit when called up for NRL. The lack of injuries this year has helped greatly in working on combos

Its a long tough competition. So far the group are travelling well and playing for each other and for TB. Provided luck doesn't abandon us anything is possible this year. Provided we use our the additional funds available in the cap next year prudently this could be the beginning of another era of the Eagles being dominant again!!!

So, I take it that the Snake and Matai issue will never be resolved in the club's favour.
That smacks of either (a) hypocrisy (from the NRL who have decreed career-ending injuries to players from other clubs) (b) bias (from the NRL against Manly) or (c) negligence (from Manly officials for not being able to put together a satisfactory case for salary dispensation).
Whatever the reason this is a major story that is going largely ignored. Why?
Why isn't the club making it a major issue? That indicates to me that the club has something to hide.
Why aren't sports writers investigating? This has great bearing for all clubs. It is news.
