Gmf why he could never make it at Manly... I was excited when we signed him but it ended up being a really long fizzle....
Maybe he was just not happy living in Sydney?
Covid. He wanted to return to his family I think
Not suggesting he wouldn't add something, but keep in mind NSW cup players and washed up players go to Super league and win "man of steel" and all the best player awards, no fun the had a very good runnng game though and personally would have liked to see him after 6-7 games under his belt at Manly

Didn't NSW Cup get cancelled with COVID? I have a feeling he had to return back to PNG as the conditions to be in Australia for work on a visa had become frustrated - unable to be carried out
Yeah something like that, from memory. He was quite an exciting recruit but timing just stymied the whole thing.

Matty Ballin, if you recall, was superfit but not so Croker. yes, they play similar but ballin was just faster in every aspect of the hooker role.
Croker is just as fit but 3 knee reconstructions has naturally dulled his speed.
If Crokes tires more than Ballin did, it may be down to Ballin having a better defensive pack around him than Crokes has had.
Ballin's passing from dummy half was clearly superior.
One plus for Croker is his kicking.
We need a dummy half threat of some sort to come off the bench next year. Up to Simpkin and Gordie to improve and demand that role.
At the time, Ipape may have been lost to Footy. It took someone to fly out to PNG and find him in the Highlands and convince him to return.

This is EXACTLY the viral internet moment that got Manly interested and there is no doubt he offered an explosive running game....fact is, if his passing, tackling, vision and other attributes were up to this level, every NRL club would have been knocking down his door, but let's be clear, they are not.
No disrespect intended, as there is no doubt he is an extremely good runner of the footy and I would have liked to see him get a run, but this same try is a great example of youtube fame based on 1 moment that some cling onto as though it defines that players all round ability....and in reality, it does not.

Its a 'hate' thing about Croker. I actually admire his efforts. But its a bit like Parker. Gives his all but just dosn't have the skills that make a top class hooker. He is afetr all a fair five ighth converted to hooker. He's improving, his defense is excellent and he's a good support player. Has characteristics I would think suit lock, but then I thought Parker would succeed at lock and we know how that went, so take no notice of that suggestion. Manly needs a nippy, quick thinking player with quick unpredictable service. I have been hoping Chan would fill the the requirements and he still may, but as yet we have no effective specialist in that position and it shows.

No hate for Croker I admire his effort and courage. But we need a dummy half that is nippy, gives good clean service and most of all puts defences in two minds.
