Blacktown Workers, especially now Levi has been signed.

If he’s good enough he’ll force his way in.

Not taking injuries into consideration, I think these may be very close to the teams we may field (and both teams have the ability to dominate their respective leagues):

Canterbury Cup
01. Albert Hopoate
02. Abbas Miski
03. Brendan Elliott
04. Sam Smith
05. Tevita Funa
06. Cade Cust
07. Zach Docker-Clay
08. Toafofoa Sipley
09. Edwin Ipape
10. Morgan Boyle
11. Tony Williams
12. Haumole Olakau'atu
13. Jack Gosiewski

14. Luke Metcalf
15. Andy Saunders
16. Keith Titmuss
17. Zac Saddler

First Grade
01. Tom Trbojevic
02. Jorge Taufua
03. Brad Parker
04. Moses Suli
05. Reuben Garrick
06. Dylan Walker
07. Daly Cherry-Evans
08. Marty Taupau
09. Danny Levi
10. Addin Fonua-Blake
11. Joel Thompson
12. Curtis Sironen
13. Jake Trbojevic

14. Lachlan Croker
15. Taniela Paseka
16. Sean Keppie
17. Corey Waddell

  • Keppie & Gosiewski may swap
  • Croker & Cust or Ipape may swap
  • Schuster still has a chance at the 14 imo
  • No spot for Jade Anderson (unless injuries)
  • Turbo 3 to play Jersey Flegg one more season
  • Schuster to play Jersey Flegg one more season

Explosive Player, who needs game time to show where he is at.
Will get opportunities in trials, but no doubt Levi is now the starting 9, with Cust likely to be higher in the pecking order atm and also add Croker to this healthy competition....these 3 will fight for a bench spot for Round 1.

I didn't think he had signed yet. He's only on a trial isn't he? So there's no guarantee that we will even see him at Blacktown. If he doesn't get an NRL spot he might decide to head back up to Queensland.

Very, very close with only 1-2 spots that may change depending on pre season training and trial form....as it sits today Des loves reliability and the squads you put together reflect this...only something out of the box will change it being damn close to these lineups

Two very strong squads there @Ryan I like your thinking

Good teams Ryan, but here's another suggestion.

Canterbury Cup
01. Brendan Elliott (also covers centre)
02. Abbas Miski
03. Sam Smith (also covers wing)
04. Tevita Funa (also covers wing)
05. Jade Anderson (also covers FB)
06. Luke Metcalf (covers half)
07. Zach Docker-Clay (also covers hooker and 5/8)
08. Toafofoa Sipley
09. Cade Cust (covers the halves)
10. Morgan Boyle
11. Tony Williams (could also cover 5/8, centre and wing)
12. Haumole Olakau'atu
13. Taniela Paseka

14. Edwin Ipape (covers halves and hooker)
15. Andy Saunders (covers prop)
16. Keith Titmuss (covers prop and backrow)
17. Zac Saddler (covers prop and backrow)

First Grade
01. Tom Trbojevic (covers full back, centre and wing)
02. Jorge Taufua
03. Brad Parker (I thought about wing... but nup!)
04. Moses Suli (could cover wing)
05. Reuben Garrick (also covers centre and full back)
06. Dylan Walker (also covers centre)
07. Daly Cherry-Evans (could cover 5/8)
08. Marty Taupau (can cover back row)
09. Danny Levi
10. Addin Fonua-Blake
11. Joel Thompson (could cover prop)
12. Curtis Sironen (could cover 5/8)
13. Jake Trbojevic (covers backrow and prop)

14. Lachlan Croker (covers the halves and hooker)
15. Jack Gosiewski (covers backrow and outside backs)
16. Sean Keppie (just covers prop but possibly also backrow)
17. Corey Waddel (covers backrow and could possibly cover prop)

I could be short of a prop on the bench but, I think Waddel or Gosiewski could cover it with their hole running and creativity plus, their defence and aggression is up there.

Des likes his workhorses off the bench and Waddel and Gosiewski give him that while adding some creativity. Keppie will give the team the ‘Ummph’ up the middle, but Toff could come on to the bench, which would probably see Croker drop back to Blacktown.

I think Des may have an idea for Cust to be a long term half and hooker replacement on the bench and will want to bring him along slowly. Fainu is obviously the preferred choice but I doubt we’ll see him this year.

I think young Hoppa and Schuster will be developed slowly in Flegg Cup in the first half of the season, until they get their confidence back from long term injuries. Barring any further injuries, they’ll then play for Blacktown in the latter half of the season and then maybe 1st grade, if injuries occur there. Young Turbo may also get a run for Blacktown, but I doubt it unless something really strange happens.

Let’s assume the worst happens (I’m not a pessimist, but if the unthinkable occurs) with injuries and you consider who has sustained injuries or suspensions over the last few years that could possibly do so again which would impact on the team we put on the field. What could our team look like at round 20?

First Grade
01. Albert Hopoate
02. Sam Smith
03. Tevita Funa
04. Moses Suli
05. Reuben Garrick
06. Joshua Schuster
07. Daly Cherry-Evans
08. Marty Taupau
09. Danny Levi
10. Sean Keppie
11. Corey Waddel
12. Haumole Olakau'atu
13. Jack Gosiewski

14. Lachlan Croker
15. Toafofoa Sipley
16. Zac Saddler
17. Tony Williams

It’s a worst case scenario (a loss of 7 players) and it’s a young side that probably wouldn’t trouble the Top 4 in 2020, but add those I’ve removed and meddle a bit in 2021 with the experience the ‘newbies’ get and we’re on track with what I predicted two years ago.. Premiership 2021!

Would put Metcalfe in the halfs with Cust [ If Croker is included in the i st grade 17 bench ] . Providing he can avoid major injury and his defence stacks up O K , could go well this season .

You forgot Taniela Paseka

In terms of raw natural ability the black Superman is second to none

I am expecting big things from Edwin Ipape

Here he is making Bennetts English team look like Canterbury cup players.

Speed Kills !

Warning ...
To all those with a weak stomach before watching this massacre . Ipape leaves blood trails every where on the field .

Cant see young Hoppa, Trbojevic and Schuster being left out of the Canterbury Cup squad given they will be either in the Top 30 or the development squad. Maybe initially one or two in Jersey, but Hoppa was in the 30 last year and they aren't going to waste the talent of the other two for too long and risk them being snapped up by other clubs. These kids will want to be vying for the top grade sooner than later, and if another club offers that, goodbye to Manly, at least for Hoppa and Schuster.

@Ryan, great team lists. Can't wait for the season to start for both squads
