Dummy 1/2 penalty pass

There is no A.I. Just better computers
Milford tonight deliberately playing for a penalty by passing from dummy half into a tackler in an offside ( technically) position.
Thoughts?

It's a bad look for the game and bad sportsmanship. Would be a terrible game if all dummy halves did this at every opportunity. Needs a change, maybe if player is lying still no penalty, no foul.

It's another piece of garbage that's crept into the game and goes un policed.
Same as forward passes from dummy half generally.
And play the balls.

??? If the dummy half passes the ball into an off side defender it's a penalty, never heard it as milking.
Just a S H I T play.
I've heard it this year and the Ref just said 'milking, play on' and the dummy half just picked up the ball and ran at the line 😎

Can't recall which game but the commentators all agreed with his ruling, as it was such a blatant attempt to get the penalty 😡

I've heard this year the refs say the exact opposite, " I have no choice"

If it is a Manly player that does it, its a knock on and we lose the ball, If it is a Donkey, penalty every time!! Tonight a 10-2 penalty count their way and they got obliterated. I live for the day that Brisbane is treated like every other club. News Filth!!

The thing that made Milford's look even worse is that if he had actually thrown to any support players the ball wouldn't have gone near the doesn't-matta player who was sitting almost directly behind him. He literally had to throw almost behind him to hit the player.

If that isn't milking a penalty, what is?? Its about time the NRL put a stop to this BS tactic.....but then again this IS the NRL so don't bet on it. Its not a rule that will make parents take their kids out of the juniors because its too violent (e.g. shoulder charge) so its likely to stay, at least for now.

Wow i'm astonished that a DH actually threw a ball backwards!! I hate the whole 'flat ball' description.

"If a player is in an offside position and he interferes with the play, and breaks down play in those circumstances, I expect the referee to penalise in those incidents.

"At that point in time Tom Trbojevic was offside." T.Archer

Imagine the nightmare moment carbonara becomes the Refs Boss

I don't think it is discretionary.

It is according to the whistle blowers. Robbie Farrah did it earlier this year but did not get a penalty.

Just more inconsistency.

Some teams (the ones who get the penalties) will stand right next the tackler and crowd them so they cannot role away to assist in the milking. Smyth is a major culprit here again.

One of the problems is that the NRL is trying to take away the discretionary penalty in a lot of circumstances, they're trying to make everything black and white which is just causing more confusion.
Things like this one, obstruction/block plays, players accidentally taken out in the air etc have somewhat been taken out of the refs hands and the fact that most of the refs are too inept or too scared to make some big calls for fear of a bad review just adds to the $hitfight that is becoming worse each week.

You could get this penalty in over half the rucks if you wanted to as there is invariably someone lying in and around the dummy half after most tackles. The morons in pink have made a rod for their own back by allowing themselves to be milked with this play and setting a precedent. Pick up ball from ruck ---> throw into player laying on the ground in offside position ---> penalty. I wonder what would happen if everyone stated doing that ?? do the refs then have to make a judgement on whether it was a genuine attempt to clear the ruck or not. It's a crap penalty if the player is doing nothing but laying there.

In my opinion it's still discretionary as I've seen some let go (quite rightly too) But you can't tell me that a first grade footballer can't pass the ball without hitting a player who isn't attempting to interfer with the play. The really good dummy halves can milk this to a tee by making it look like they weren't trying to hit the offside player. Refs fall for it pretty much every time.
