Doorman Vs Frogs eyes, 100m sprint.

For mine, the fastest players ever to play at Manly are (over the 100):

Ken Irvine, Johnny Bliss, Nick Yakich, Brett Stewart, Dale Shearer, Scott Donald, Andrew Frew.

Others who could also motor were Russel Gartner, Tom Mooney, Michael O'Connor, Stuart Davis, Phil Blake, Chris Hicks

In Thomas Keneally's book about Des Hasler, apparently in the early 80's Des contemplated a career as a sprinter and had a hand held 100 metre time of 10.7 which would have put him up there (as a comparison Martin Offiah's best recorded time was 10.8).

Tom Mooney was everything.
Tough, fast , skilful and above all a great finisher.
One of the best never to play for state or country.

Gibbsy
Hicks
Robbo
Turbo Tom and maybe even DCE would be a contender...
Gibbsy and DCE would be a great match-up.
Forgot about Turbo Tom. ( too busy living in the past.....again ) but he'd be thereabouts and I think he'll only get quicker.

Dylan Walker is super quick over the first 20m but he is not the quickest at the club over 40m...Tom T is Manly's quickest over 40. Walker is a lot like Billy Slater; lightening acceleration and then susceptible to being run down thereafter. You could see Daniel Tupou almost catch him from a turn and chase the other night.

Absolute great moments.
I was hoping someone would put these up seeing I can't.
The one against parra I watched unfold in front of me sitting in the bradman or noble stand.
A great moment.
Thanks Brissie Kid.
Larry Corrowa the balmain winger was faster than gartner, he beat him in the league olympics back then

Isn't Lawrence the fastest at the club?

Isn't Lawrence the fastest at the club?
Not anymore. When he first came to manly in 2013 he ran the fastest 40m time and it was a big story so it seems to get brought up every time speed is discussed but that was a few years ago now. He is still fast but the injuries have taken a toll.

Tom is officially the quickest over 40 at the club in 2017.

From Wikipedia

"Johnny Bliss wasn't just a rugby league player though. He was also a highly successful beach sprint champion. He won an amazing 12 Australian championships in a row from 1939 to 1952. A record that may never be equalled or broken and he even attempted a comeback at the age of 38 to win the 1960 NSW title."

"Bliss was an exceptionally fast runner. During the 1947 season, decked out in full football gear including heavy leather football boots and carrying a football, Bliss clocked an amazing 11.1 seconds over 110 yards and also recorded 9.9 seconds over 100 yards. Compare this time with that run by American Harrison Dillard who won the 100 m gold medal at the 1948 London Olympics in 10.3 seconds and it shows just how fast Bliss really was."

Geez I should remember that because dad took us out to it.
What a great night, and Manly won.
I still got the photo of Randall or thrower holding up the cheque.
Imagine them doing that today lol.

A match-up with him and Kenny Irvine would've been a ripper.

Remember guys these were in the days of hand held stop watches and no allowance for wind, so "times" were always taken with a grain of salt. It was actual races that counted.

I was a junior sprint champion and I remember at least two occasions when my winning time was slower than the 2nd place runner.

Not to mention training methods, diet , running surfaces, equipment and time invested in it would be light years away from today.
