I'm fairly certain that around 1991,Des agreed to terms with an english club,I think it was Wigan, and it was to be his last season at Manly.
In one of the end of season games,Des ruptured his ACL and is gone for the rest of the year and his contract with the english club is withdrawn.
He returned back to Manly the following season, but without the blistering pace he used to have.
Once again Manly came to the rescue of Desmond Hasler.
