Manly were poor - effort lacking - energy down....but ....
The 2nd try Uate was blatantly taken out mid air...the commentators with Gasnier leading the way, claimed Uate lost it in the sun....he was karate kicked mid flight by Nightingale, who got nowhere near the ball??
That's not a challenge...the attacking player took out the defending player and did not get a hand on the ball himself - awkward challenge at best.
Not a deciding factor but a blatant poor call....if we lost a final by 2 and that was the deciding try, would be filthy.

I was surprised no one mentioned this earlier .......but I guess it didn't matter in the end!

I couldn't understand this decision either...........complete BS!

The bunker said "both players challenging for the ball" .................they both were under the flight of the ball and the Dragons player jumped straight into Uate. Even with eyes on the ball, don't know how this could be legal. Seems it's no different to tackling someone off the ball.

I fell over when the bunker ruled it as "play on"............

More importantly where were our "blockers" yesterday.....not much protection for our catchers from our own team. It's open slather on taking out chasers these days, so it's bad game management to not run interference

Didn't you see yesterdays game? A Manly player tackled without the ball which robbed him of the opportunity to score (which Joey Lussick would have) will lead to an opposition penalty.

Further reason why Barrett should go to 'Your dead to me' mode with that potato-headed convicted drink driver clod from Goonawarra.

Add that to the bullsht strip penalty in the first set to the Goons which gave all the initial momentum.
I couldn't believe nothing was said about that strip penalty when it happened...that's the kind of refereeing that will honestly push me away from following the NRL for good...it's getting that ridiculous. It's a lottery and referee blows the whistle on suspicion.

Absolute garbage.

That's a bit harsh. They did an excellent job blocking for Nightingale's first try.

Considering these days you can't challenge a fullback for anything without getting penalised, I thought that decision really sucked balls.

How often do you see these days an attacker making a genuine effort when going up against a fullback and the fullback drops it and the attacker gets penalised....all the time.

You can't go up for a challenge, Uate was right there in line with it. Boot him out of the way, miss it yourself and then say 'legitimate challenge '.

When it happened I just went, oh definitely no try here,,,,,nup commentators just brushed over it. Pathetic.

I actually did mention it here during the game. My point was when is it a penalty where a player goes for the ball early and takes out the defending player. Uate had no chance and that is fine 'if' Nightingale caught it, but he was nowhere near it.

So is this fair game...where is the line drawn?

Settle terry

I recall the Zarsoff bros being at thier very best accompanied by the home town Illawarra goon at Berkeley pub

You can blame 1000 things for yesterdays loss. The truth is we stunk! No discipline with or with out the ball. The resilience we have seen all season was evident for 15 minutes yesterday. It was one of those games. Learn from it and move on!! We were not at the races yesterday and yes calls went against us but we didn't aim up when it counted. A learning curve for the team.

Nightingale has a load of dirt in his game and it shows with the little niggly things that he does within the "laws" but still costs us points. One of those players that you don't hate until you watch him play.

Can you imagine the whinging that would have come out of the Fox commentary booth from Gasnier if Akuila had done that to Nightingale and we scored?

Jack De Bellend is the guy who I can't take to. Always attacks the little guy. Ultra smug when his team is on top. Horrible beard too.

I'm ok with the guys challenging the high kicks (that's the way the game was played before anything hard became illegal) as long as it goes both ways. It's just a pity we never got the chance to try one on them at the other end!!!
