Dessie's contract wish

Geeze, DESpicable has a hide.
Fancy him making demands when his football team is probably the worst in the comp.
DESpicable has been given much more leeway by fans and media hacks because of the reputation he gained as a great player and then as a great Manly coach -- but that was a decade ago. He'd earned this. But his time is well and truly up.
I have never fully forgiven him for the way he treated the club and sold out his players in 2012, but I was hoping that his return would make us more than competitive.
He lost me late last season and I'm infuriated to think he has the ego to deserve a further contract at this stage.

AT least this time, we have leverage. No other club will be after him after his Bulldogs tenure ended badly and the performance of the team over the past 13 games. Take whats on offer De$mond or fark the right off.

Why on earth would you resign a coach who managers tell their young stars to stay clear of..what does that say..look at what he is doing to olakauatu and schuster..and we have a heep of fine young talent coming through do we want des to destroy that hope we have

Why would we want him? Withdraw the offer and keep the kids.

Again I'm wondering if I imagine these things, but I'm sure when Des first started finding success as a coach he always said he didn't want to be a career coach. Given that he doesn't seem to like being held accountable, maybe he should consider a switch to politics. Or retail. One of the two.

You don’t win or lose rugby league premierships in March.
However, when a team performs as hopelessly in round one as the Manly Sea Eagles did against the Roosters on Saturday, there are obvious reasons for alarm.

It’s why we’re talking about Dessie Hasler’s future right now.

Last week club legend Peter ‘Zorba’ Peters listed his old team among the 2021 wooden spoon contenders. On Sunday he was still at it.

“I hate to say it but that performance showed what I was talking about,” Peters said.

The TAB agrees with Manly’s price firming from $15 to $11 in the most-losses market after the loss.

“I’m hurting like every Manly fan,” Peters said.

“I can’t remember a time in our 75 years when we’ve lost nine out of our last 10 games in the manner in which we have.

“You look at the scorelines and it’s scary. We lost 46-4 on Saturday. We conceded between 30 and 50 points in all the other losses. This is embarrassing for a proud club like ours.”
The Sea Eagles were also thumped by the Wests Tigers a fortnight ago in the trial at Leichhardt Oval.
Daly Cherry-Evans can’t stop the bleeding.

Daly Cherry-Evans can’t stop the bleeding.
Saturday was the 10th biggest round-one loss of all time for any club.
It was Manly’s heaviest defeat since 2005. The Roosters made nine line breaks to their one. There was nothing doing in attack or defence.
They’ll be massive underdogs against South Sydney on Saturday, then face St George Illawarra and Penrith.
The Hasler story is a big one.
His coaching record in more recent times is not great. He finished 11th in his final year at the Bulldogs and 13th last season at Brookvale. There was a top-eight finish in between in 2019.
Hasler is off contract at the end of the season and this is the elephant in the room.
He has been offered a new deal but has not yet signed it because of the performance clauses.
The story will not just disappear while there is a negotiating stalemate.
Jake Trbojevic is part of a trio of players eating up much of Manly’s salary cap.

Jake Trbojevic is part of a trio of players eating up much of Manly’s salary cap.
This will have an effect on the playing roster like it does at every club when the coach is subjected to such intense speculation.
We spoke to Hasler on Sunday about the Roosters game. It is business as usual.
“The performance was poor and really disappointing for our fans,” he said, “but we have a group of players who are prepared to work hard to turn it around. It’s only one round.”
Hasler was out in Blacktown on Sunday watching Manly’s feeder club, Blacktown, carve up North Sydney 48-20.
At least Cade Cust put his hand up for NRL selection on Tuesday with the hooker bagging a hat-trick.
You look at the Manly situation and wonder how they get out of this mess.
They have three players, Daly Cherry Evans, Tom Trbojevic and Jake Trbojevic soaking up $3.2 million of the salary cap. Marty Tapau and Dylan Walker are also on big bucks.
Cade Cust is pushing hard for a recall.

Cade Cust is pushing hard for a recall.
It affects the depth and balance of the roster. There was no money left to keep Api Koroisau from going to Penrith. Plus they can’t cope with injuries.
Losing Tom Turbo with another hamstring in the shower or the Manly Corso foot race (believe whatever version you want) was a massive blow.

Monday Buzz: Why there’s no-one quite like TeddyDes under the pump as Manly slip further into abyssThe player who upstaged star-studded Bears
They not only lose such a devastating attacking strike power but are forced to play Walker out of his specialist centre position which opened up defensive weaknesses for the Roosters to exploit.
Manly is the only NRL team to have never won a wooden spoon.

Sounds like our CEO isn't arsing around.

The biggest issue if they don't sign Des 2021 will be a total write off, then a rebuild.

Short term pain, long term gain??

We deserve better than this. The club has 6 of the best players in the nrl, well based on their salary, yet can't fire a shot on the field.

Something just isnt right.

.look at what he is doing to olakauatu and schuster..and we have a heep of fine young talent coming through do we want des to destroy that hope we have
All the Silvertails experts are in agreement about this, which pretty much proves we must be right!!
Although we did say the same thing about Albert Hoppa last year and it turned out we were wrong and Des was right.
My only point being, I don't think there's an easy fix here, such as sack Hasler or promote more kids.

There is no simple easy fix at this stage, and that includes replacing the coach - first, how much of this year's contract do people seriously think the Penns will be prepared to pay out? Second, changing the guard does not of itself solve anything. It can actually make it worse. Dean Pay, anyone?
You don't have to dig too deep to see how we got in this mess, it's been the footy version of a perfect storm in some ways. I've still got some faith in the current management coaches and our 30 man squad to pull us back up again. I expect to see improvement over the next few weeks, and a couple of team changes as well.
(and yes, I'm optimistic, so what!)

If I was Humphreys I would be taking the contract offer off the table and reassess where the team is at the mid year point. If we’re in a bad state, Des doesn’t get a renewal and we begin the search for a new coach for the 2022 season.

It's already a write off any year we are challenging for the spoon instead of the finals is that. If the club extend him it tells the world we are a rabble.

Seriously what organisation would be negotiating an extension with Des?

One as desperate as ours.

The club have nowhere to turn?

Dream of Bellamy or Bennett next year or Seibold or Green now.

We can be grateful Cartwright has gone or the job would be his.

If we go in another direction that isn’t Des, then it needs to be a modern coach.

I’d be looking at someone like Fitzgibbon and giving him as much ammo as possible.

None of this piss weak **** we provided Barrett with as that was always going to a failure.

Fitzgibbon has done his apprenticeship under the Roosters, and to get someone like him, the club is going to have to provide him what he needs.

I think the definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, same team, same result, same coach same result, etc, etc, change is a necessity as the game has changed, the coach has not and the players have not.
Take for example Jnr Paulo, big lungs, good battery, but needed to rip his chassis to keep up with the change of pace in the modern game congratulations to him and Parra for understanding what’s necessary and working to both implementing it and achieve it, he looks tremendous and is in for a huge year, another prime example of the modern front rower Fischer-Harris made for the game, fit, athletic and most of all willing. Letting AFB go or losing him either way, what a disaster, did he lose faith in Des? or his teammates? or both? I suggest the later.
Reading that agents are telling their player to avoid playing under Hasler, if true says it all he has to go, his wishes aside, we don’t need to extend or resign him at this stage, i would prefer to see a change immediately, but understand the cost maybe too hard to swallow, if that’s true then maybe time is also up for the Penn’s. Football cost money and takes passion and commitment, if it’s not forthcoming nor will the results, the club, it’s past players, the fans, the members deserve more.
Belly ache can take an average player and get him to do his job, so the playing roster can do better, but only if there driven, motivated and United as a group, headed up by the right coach. Choosing a suitable replacement will be a challenge and giving Des the chance to see out the year will most likely be the path we go down, he owes this club a lot after his previous departure, not the other way round, do your job, stop the rot and produce some results, then you may be entitled to seek a new deal, which I would still like to see based on results, no coach is exempt from poor results. Sorry Des no wishes been granted in your favour, earn it or do the honourable thing and stand down, your aura has faded, your media presence is unprofessional and I think the moral amongst our playing group is at an all time low, these are aspects of your job, you are employed to get results. So much more could be said and probably should be, but the fact is, it will be difficult to fix, so don’t hide from it or prolong it any longer, no extension, in fact set a results driven outcome from this moment forward and hold Des accountable, if things don’t improve accordingly pay him out and make the necessary change to set our once proud club back on the path to a title, that’s what it’s all about not contract extensions when your under preforming, it stinks and is only rubbing salt into the wounds and yes all eagles supports are feeling properly let down and wounded at present.
