Des is Angry - This is what we want...

At the moment every decision seems kneejerk reactive/hopeful, not meticulously planned with structured progress of seeing a sustainable team into the future.

When Des came in you could see the plan unfold, building a team, building depth, applying structures he believed in, new training techniques ahead of the game, having young halves ready to step in, not overplaying their hand while the experienced cattle guided the ship.(Yes Foran can be this element but physically Foran was backing away from the hard stuff back in 2013 to preserve his career and will have to let his smarts inspire others now---if he stays on the field)

Manase they are hopeful he gets off, or the other angle that was mentioned here is Manly stayed loyal to Manase not to lose others----if Manly decide to run a club in this fashion we are setting ourselves up for prolonged pain.

I'm not fussed about back ended contracts because you need the balance of old heads retained to guide the youth in and set standards, it just has to be managed better and not overlapping, all about balance---not half the squad retained on backended contracts.

None of this "he is a loyal/local Manly boy we must find a way to retain him" like the days of old, a managed release of players with zero flexibility in this regard.

I see this year as Yr 1 again(well really yr 1.5) as we have established stars in the squad, the first year with Dessie back not much he could do other than ride the wave of being the new coach, last year in many ways was pointless other than blood a few players for depth.

Hopefully the rise in Manly's fortunes and new facilities coincide together for a new more professional era at the club, it has felt like the 1990's for too long now.

Foran has never backed away from anything, that's why he has been hurt so often. Doesn't know the definition of self preservation.

Foran has been backing away for years and does not hit hard in defence like he used to, or even take on the line with as much purpose as often as the past.

Foran would not be playing now if he played like he did from 09-2012.(intensity wise)

Still plays very direct and brings his players onto the ball nice and straight unlike what we have seen with lateral shifts without momentum im recent seasons.....regardless of what Foran does, will be a Massive lift both in energy and competitiveness for the side...and I feel the hugely talented Schuster could not have a better educator than Foran

For To ask foz to lead the team on a quarter of his price is shirking it in my opinion and not a plan but a hope. If foz has a good year and remains injury free his price will double at least and will become a blake green and put us back to square one
DCE is fine to lead the team as long as he isn’t the only play making focus. Schuster will be taking much of that role in 2022 even if Foran does a Green (which I don’t see happening).

DCE has his limitations, but Thurston couldn’t do it on his own either - he needed Morgan before they became premiers. Cronk had Smith. You put DCE with Smith at nine and we win at least two more premierships.

At one point dce had the double punch of api and fainu

The thurston example is valid. They unearthed morgan on the cheap and had them both for a short time. If thurston hadnt retired the cows would not of retained morgan due to there price points

Glaville was the hooker from memory , he was ok but had a purple parch while he was cheap. They still needed a lot of stars to align on the cheap to win a title

Morgan has done nothing since, the cows either by overpaying morgan. Dce is more like morgan than thurston.

Team and performance level were actually going quite well in the early stages last season until the shocking run with injuries. and just mainly a combination of inexperience and less capable playing personal made things difficult then . Des then subsequently seemed to have some issues with some coaching adjustments and selection choices but those early wins against the likes of the Roosters and Raiders showed that at full strength , the side was very competitive and D C E had one of his better seasons last season[ apart from his kicking game , but a disjointed back line and so much disruption to the team in general did not help much . Was surprised that the defence and intensity feel away even with the injuries but that is another matter of course . Also hope that the repeat sets can be more common next year , Foz should help , has to be a regular in the side somewhere but not sure if Schuster has got that in his game yet with a sufficient kicking game in general and would not be surprised to see him coming into contention as an agile edge forward or 13 . Point being , have the best or close to best Manly 17 on the field this season and they can compete with any side even if the i st choice 9 is not available .

All of what you say is 100% correct. While our replacement backline certainly had its limitations they were not served any good ball at all. None

Our early season success was built on tom and walker digging into the line, putting there bodies on the line to create space for others but also to force opposition defence structures to work hard and to panic. Once walker and tom were injured only marty supplied this important part of the game. Defences handled us with ease once they were gone just sliding and waiting for our players to succumb

Every 6 and 7 in the game should have this as part of there tool kit. Schuster showed in in 20 minutes of footy

It is very obvious that this is not part of cherries game and he has no intention of making it part of his game. This is why he is often caught running sideways and crabbing the attack. To straigten it makes him a target

He is very skilful, tackles , but will not put himself out there to improve the games of the outside backs . He needs to learn to take a hit. He Was taken out after kicking last year in a lateish hit and sooked it hard. It was telling

Thurston was mentioned in this thread. Thurston owned the game , the result and put his body on the line to secure it. This is what. DCEb needs to do to be seen as a great

There is a reason he doesnt get injured much. Its no coincidence. Jason taylor was the same.

Cherry was on his own is an excuse used waay too often. Its his job to bring others into the game. If he is lonely maybe its his fault. I dont expect we win every game, not al all. I just expect the players play a role that gives us a fighting chance. If cherry didnt defend so much because all teams get more ball than us ( another coincidence) he wouldnt need to wash his jersey because of his attack

Guess that that is the difference between Thurston rightfully being rated in the Great category and D C E as a good to very good player at times and with game management not one his really stronger points over time . Does so much better with retreating defences but can show at times that he can read the play well enough and to bring players off him to run O K lines and effective wider running ,[ with Siro a good example in closer when he is on . Again really has to be a better kicking and exerting pressure type game this season to get better results and the right combination in the halves to get it done
