There's no "rule" about when you can have children obviously, but current trends would indicate that 23 is fairly young. Seems most people are leaving it till they are in their 30's, so it is a little surprising from that point of view, but absolutely nothing wrong with it if he is ready for it. Good luck to him, I wasn't being critical.

Can only speak from my experience and say there is no way I was ready to have kids at 23.

Probably a good age .. if you have a reasonable income (he has) and in a secure relationship (appears so) then better now then later. I think with what he has gone through as a leader in an elite sport he has matured earlier then most.
