Dally M judge Ruan Sims

THE NRL has been forced to perform a humiliating backflip after controversy erupted over Dally M judge Ruan Sims’ votes for the Parramatta Eels vs Manly Sea Eagles round seven clash on the 22nd of April.

The women’s rugby league star was scolded on social media by fans after giving Manly forward Api Koroisau a point despite him missing nine tackles in the Sea Eagles’ 44-10 defeat to the bottom-placed side.

Sims gave two points to Eels skipper Tim Mannah, who played off the bench, and three points to Eels half Mitchell Moses.

It was later revealed Sims was playing in another women’s game for Cronulla against Newcastle at Shark Park while the men’s match was taking place at ANZ Stadium. It is a requirement for judges to be present at each match. The NRL launched an investigation following the revelation.

The 36-year-old Sims stood down from her role as judge on Monday, announcing her move via social media.

“There was a late change in my playing schedule and this meant I was unable to attend the Eels vs Sea Eagles match live,” Sims posted on Twitter.

“I understand there is a requirement to watch matches live when judging for Dally M points. I respect the game and more importantly I value the integrity of the game above all else.

“My mistake was an honest one, albeit a mistake that I should not have made.

“For this reason I have made the decision to stand down as Dally M judge.”

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said the competition would re-vote on the match in place of Sims.

“We must maintain the integrity of the awards and we will ask one of the other judges on the panel to review the game and allocate Dally M points,” he said.

At least she watched the game, I’ve seen plenty of votes where I’ve been sure the judge just pulled names out of a hat.

So she didn't watch the game live (a requirement) and so her votes have been nullified and she was (probably) tapped on the shoulder to quit.

Now to fix all this, some other person is not going to watch the game live and give out votes.

Greenburg: maintaining integrity since..... ah hahahahahahahahahahaha

I can't imagine she watched the game at all to award the points she did, either that or she is clueless as to what constitutes a Dally M performance.

Just another case of Greenturd fostering an agenda at the expense of what the game really is and is supposed to be to all who participate in or spend their hard-earned supporting.

Just another disgrace to add to his astonishing destruction of what was a once great game.

I can't believe he is allowed to do the things he is doing.

Some of the judging in general seems crap....have seen plenty’s of games with the 3,2,1 going completely different to the game I seen.
Example have seen Nth Wild win and the clear best players were Granville and Cooper, but the Auto favourites in Thurston and Morgan get the Top points....not sure how closely any of these judges watch the games?
Certain teams win and the same players get Auto points.
I realise the better players often impact a win, but this is not always the case and often the less popular players outshine them clearly, but miss the recognition.
Maybe a few judges don’t watch the games and pick from the result?

Dally M must be the most flimsy award ever anyway. It always makes me laugh when somebody uses the line "But he's a Dally M winner " as some sort of justification about the worth of a particular player. This is just another example of how little this award means.

And another example of NRL/Todd happy to give a job to someone on the basis that it's a good look for publicity and media spin as she ticks every Public relations box. Keep up the good work Todd.
