Crusher Cleal

You answered your own question. If Cleal is being paid handsomely to do not very much, then why is he still employed? Especially as Fulton appears to be the driving force behind the Club’s recruiting efforts.

I say Des is looking after his long term mate. Maybe this is a bit of a retirement package unfolding having Cleal on the books.
Des is know to help out where he can as long as it’s not from his own hip pocket.

Anyway, nothing to see here folks. No harm done, moving right along.

I know he is. Moving him on might have unintended consequences - like Zorba’s ‘offline’ efforts against the then CEO/CFO back in 2011/12, after Zorba was sacked for his ‘You’re a good sort’ comment.

Here's the deal to bring Crusher back.

Jason Taumalolo is rumoured to be disenchanted in North Queensland, and doesn't get on with their coach. They are also reportedly after Marty Taupau.

I love it but is he who we need (smarter people than me will know)

I kinds feel like we need someone who can set a tone in defence as well

Would any prospective club interested in JT have to be willing to take on the remaining years of his $1m contract?

Even with the Cowboys kicking in some of it each year, another (what, 5 years?) commitment to an aging forward could be quite restrictive on future salary cap.

Some good attack by Crusher here:

The commentators are great, Rex, Ian Maurice, even Hughes to some extent. Geyer and Mortimer should have been marched.

He's 28. His contract runs through to him just turning 34 (which IS kinda old for a forward).
If you could get his contract down to 650-700 I'd say that's a good bargain.

If we could do that trade, we could potentially get 150,000 in cap space, when switched on, possibly the best forward in the game (and with a contract we don't have to negotiate for some time), and a ready replacement for Taupau.

Jake then to prop to cover Marty.

I think Crusher networks as opposed to actually works!

If I remember correctly, his greatest ever recruitment, one future Manly captain (sucked in Parra) Crusher failed to show up, or show up in time to watch Jamie's bush grand final, signed him sight unseen, a few tries in the gf and a coaches recommendation who Crusher trusted was enough.

I consider Taumalolo a gun signing for Manly. Get the swap done.
We would be locked into his $1m per year contract for the remainder of the 10 years. This would cripple our cap which we can’t afford.
Need value for money signings, not top dollar stars. We already have the T’s and DCE on that kind of money.

They'd be willing to take on freight. He's 28, and is on contract for another 5 years (to 33) - which is a year or two older than Marty is now. If they threw in say 350k (and you get him for 650) do it.

Imagine this (and the metres you'd get) next season:

06. Josh Schuster
07. Daly Cherry-Evans
08. Taniela Paseka
09. Manase Fainu
10. Josh Aloiai
11. Haumole Olakau'atu
12. Kelma Tuilagi
13. Jason Taumalolo

14. Karl Lawton
15. Ethan Bullemor
16. Sean Keppie
17. Jake Trbojevic

Nothing article, the production line of young talent and results in the lower grades is as good as it has been for a long, long time. Don’t care in what form these results are coming through, but If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it

Well if the Cowboys chip in 350k per year for the remainder of his contract that’s a value for money signing right there. But I would be highly surprised they would contribute that much over 5 years.
That’s $1,750,000 over that period. Hell of a lot of money against their cap for nothing.
I hope they do it but doubt they will

The Cleal deal

Manly recruitment manager Noel Cleal took exception to our piece last week where then Bulldogs chairman Ray Dib questioned his performance when he was in the same role at the Bulldogs. We said the comments raised questions about his position at Manly. Cleal sent a polite message.

“Hi, Danny, it’s Crusher,” he wrote. “Read your column in today’s paper and would like to clarify a few things. Firstly, you quoted Ray Dib stating that I failed to recruit any first-graders at the Dogs. Here is a list of players I signed: Damien Cook, Shaun Lane, Reed Mahoney, Morgan Harper, Bailey Simonsson, Reimis Smith, Brenko Lee, Corey Thompson, Marcelo Montoya, Makahesi Makatoa, Tommy Talau, Brad Abbey and Adam Keighran. Plus I played a role in the development of Moses Mbye, Josh Jackson, David Klemmer and Dale Finucane.

“Secondly, at Manly we have a recruitment committee consisting of Des [Hasler], Scott [Fulton] and myself. We agree on a player and it’s Scott’s role to then sign them. Not sure of your agenda mate.”

No agenda, just voicing a few concerns expressed to me by people at the Eagles. And as far as we know, Andrew Davey is the big signing Cleal has made in Manly’s top 30.

Can't go mad at journos, they'll all band together, claim the nation is "disgusted" by your actions, then go silent when said journo is stood down for being a misogynistic turd burger.

Then again, maybe the sports journos are just stressed that one day the monkeys will unionise and they'll have to pay them a living wage for writing their articles.
