Good news for this weekends game, although they do have great depth

Storm star Crocker out for 12 weeks
Wednesday, May 23, 2007 - 7:24 PM

Melbourne Storm forward Michael Crocker will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks after opting to undergo surgery on his troubled shoulder.

Crocker has been plagued by the injury so far this season and has started only four of ten matches for the Storm.

He was thought to be in line for a State of Origin recall after missing last year's series through suspension, but selectors were not willing to gamble on his fitness.

After failing to recover in time for the Storm's 26-2 win over the Roosters on the weekend, Crocker met with a shoulder specialist in Melbourne and booked in for a "mini" shoulder reconstruction on Monday that will see him miss a large chunk of the rest of the season.

Storm physio Mary Toomey said Crocker had a labral tear that was hindering his rehabilitation from an overall shoulder problem.

Toomey said while Crocker should be back in action for the late NRL rounds and finals, the Queenslander could require more surgery after the season.

"As long as everything goes alright with his rehab there's no reason to think he won't be back in that time," Toomey said.

"It's actually in the end going to be very similar to the surgery that Andrew Symonds had and came back from.

"It is possible that they might need to do some more work on it at the end of the season but it will be a case of it see how it goes."

Crocker could not be contacted but Storm chief executive Brian Waldron said the injury was a huge blow for the premiership favourites.

"He's only played four games this year and we've certainly been able to cover for him but it's a huge loss," Waldron said.

"But if he gets it right now and gets back the finals that would be a great result for us.

"He's had a horrific run (with injuries) but that's how he plays the game and you're always going to be a victim to your own courage at some time when you play this game and that's what he's suffering from."

Waldron said the club was taking every precaution with the 26-year-old to preserve his future at the club.

"He should have another couple of years with us and it's important we take a long term view for this," Waldron said.

"Sometimes injuries like this can play in your favour as a club because of another number of youngsters come in and fill his void and it just improves your depth.

"We pride ourselves on having great depth.

"Whether we can cover Mick to the best of our ability, obviously not one hundred per cent because he's a great player, but certainly we've got the depth to cover him as best as possible."

Johnson shouldnt be seen for a while but he is a queenslander.

Killer seemed to do the job on Kafousi who was as ordinary as white

Kaufusi tore a ligament in his knee right off the bone. A little tap on whites nose won't go astray on Saturday night either.

Still waiting for that princess Inglis to say he's pulled up with a slight heart strain and can't take the field against the number 1 team.
