I feel there is a false narrative being spun that the Dogs blew it, were the better side, lacked experience and will be better for it, etc.

However…

A neutral observer mentioned to me that Dogs plan of energy and line speed would catch up with them eventually and it did. Thus, Manly’s defence and resilience to stay in touch and be in with a shot with ten to go, says they earned and deserved the win.

The Dogs ran out of puff and we came over the top of them. Credit to Manly for absorbing all that was thrown at them. Bravo fitness team.

A well deserved victory.

No doubt about it.

However, Manly would be wise to not repeat this scenario on Saturday. If the Roosters dominate the ruck and field position for 70 mins like the Dogs did, we will not be able to repeat an 'Ali v Foreman' against a much stronger opposition

I didn't see any of that.
I felt Dogs played great, but were lucky to get out to the lead they did.
They played out of their skins and took advantage of every opportunity, including a couple of tries that were let's say, a little controversial.
Personally feel it was a rollercoaster game, Manly were the better team and what made me happy, was the patience to hang in the fight and have the ability to score a long distance try to break the dogs hearts....but the key was this sides resilience, as once Dogs jumped out to that double digit lead, the team galvinated together and stopped the flow of points that imo....would have leaked in previous years and Dogs or any other side runs away with a 34 - 10 type win.
The Dogs coaching staff and players were happy to confess Manly deserved the win so what the media or Dogs fans say is sour grapes.
The title here is "Credit to Manly" and that's exactly what it was .....

Agree, all the media after the game was all about the dogs, no one really gave us any credit, as per usual
Manly doesn’t seem to be in anyone’s thoughts right now. All the talk is about the other 5 teams & very little mention about us. NRL 360 s a prime example. Anasta almost cums live on TV when he talks about the Roosters & Bulldogs. Tallis looks like he is in Disneyland & is clueless. Anyway best thing for us is to stay out of the limelight & be classified as just making up the numbers.

As much as it hurt it was a fantastic game of footy, I could not be happier to have Ciro as our coach he never makes excuses and gives credit where it’s due and praised the Eagles. The Dogs certainly lacked the experience of having someone like DCE & Turbo as they are a new young team with mixed experience. Compare Ciro to someone like Trent Robinson who is a serial excuse maker is ridiculous. Apart from the **** online the Dogs & Manly are easily the most two hated clubs and don’t deserve to have animosity between each other in my opinion. I’ve seen a fair bit of flack earlier in the year about Seibold but I think he’s been good for your team.

Count yourself and your team lucky, I have hated how the Dogs have been under constant media limelight and so has Ciro, reporters in pressers have put it on him and he doesn’t want a bar of it or gives any hype credit. All it’s done it’s spark the hatred and everything that comes along with that. The dark horse is always the best than media darlings in my view

Yeah agree about Robbo. He basically has an unlimited number of rep players in his team. He has an incredible roster. I know a lot of roosters fans are frustrated that they haven’t won another comp in the last five years

Not surprising when you have not a millionaire but a billionaire funding the club! Money doesn’t buy a junior pathways program though in comparison to Riff

The Roosters were blown away early by Penrith, and will be utterly focused on starting hard and fast. We have to be able to hold them and play smart for the first 20 minutes.
To be fair if Manly start the game better then round 21 it will come along way to beating the Rorters. The Rorters are missing some key players while we are close to full strength with some injuried players.

Yes, credit to Ciro for not making excuses. At the end of the day, Burton, Mahoney, Sexton, and Tracey are not and never will be the level of DCE and Turbo, even with years of experience.

Crichton is a different matter. He is a big game freak and does an incredible job of influencing big games from the fringes of the contest.

My concern for the Dogs, is not experience, rather the quality of players in their spine. They could play the next ten finals and still fall short because the class is Kikau and Crichton and they are not spine players.

At a pinch, I can see Burton developing a bit more of a killer instinct but the Mahoney is a flog and Tracey and Sexton do not possess the talent to move into the next tier.

I respectfully disagree about Tracey & Sexton I think they are developing well, this is the first year they have been playing together, compared to teams like Manly who have had a strong same spine for years now. They have some good signings coming and unexpected ones if the Fox departs. I know the club is in good hands with Gus, he knows footy and how to create successful teams and is focusing heavily on the junior pathways programs like did he at Penrith, which is incredibly important.

Mahony is a good player. Solid defender, energetic and a real workhorse. However, if you analyze why Manly were able to come back and win the match it was largely due to Mahony's ill discipline, giving away two penalties. In a tight match such indiscretions can lead to a momentum shift. He needs to get the niggle out of his game. He's lucky he's playing at a time when opposition players can't sort him out like they used to be able to deal with such pests.

He is a good player, and really gives it 100% but has blown his cool way too many times now where it’s ridiculous. He literally has Mick Ennis the 2nd written all over him in my opinion

Tracey is a year older than Turbo at 28. I can’t see him suddenly developing into a Dally M winning rep fullback. Sexton is limited in talent; a good short kicking game but not overly quick and dangerous as a running threat and have not seen great vision in his passing game. I’d have Nicho Hynes well ahead in terms of natural ability and he is struggling to be a factor in big games for the Sharks.

Both Tracey and Sexton are good honest and serviceable first graders. Big game stars? I can’t see it.

Burton has the potential to go to another level with his speed and competitive drive. However, he seems to fade in and out of games. I’m sure it’s something he can work on.

Mahoney is quickly developing into a liability. Anyone that laughs during a square off, is a very simple brain. The lowest common denominator laughs in those situations, in spite of nothing being overly funny. It’s a base line behaviour designed to communicate a relaxed attitude in combat scenarios. Inside he is anything but relaxed, as demonstrated when the smile quickly faded in the tunnel when Jack Hethrington was ready to go.

Manly were $21 to win the premiership before the season started. There are only 6 teams left and now we are paying $23. Doesn’t make any sense to me. We are so far under the radar it’s not funny.
