Cowboys challenge shoulder charges. 50-50 result

Cowboys forwards Jason Taumalolo and Matt Scott will both plead not guilty to shoulder charges at the NRL judiciary this week.

Both were charged over hits in the Cowboys' golden point win over Brisbane, with Taumalolo risking a two-match ban if found guilty at the judiciary.

Scott is facing a one-match ban but is also sidelined indefinitely after suffering an ACL injury during the match.

"Not guilty your honour!"

"Not guilty, case dismissed!"

I suppose with some players, it all depends on any antecedents they may have as to whether they plead guilty or decide to fight the charges.
I suppose with Marty and Co , that they may have had a penalty loading if they contested the charges.
But then again, that may just be the unwritten Manly loading that seems to be commonplace these days

Seems to be a Manly loading on penalties as well!!

We always get 25% more than the opposition, and don't always deserve to do so!

AFB's shoulder charge was no different to Taumalolo's so if the Cows win at the judiciary then it'll be a complete farce.

Kapow's hit on the other hand wasn't a shoulder charge. But as he has form, he has a referee and MRC target on his back which is why he's been asked to curb his aggression.

If Clubs made it part of their contract, then a Player could choose to pay for a defense or be suspended.

If JT is cleared a week after Manly's two innocuous charges, then it will be outrageous in the extreme 😡 That photo of 'the' tackle you (@HappilyManly) posted in another thread is quite damning and I can't see how he can be cleared. Then again, he's a Cows' player, so I guess they'll find a way

All the people that are bagging the club for not supporting their players, did it ever cross your mind that maybe the club knows that Manly always get the wrong end of the stick so figure what's the point when we will just get hung out to dry?? Many people have said that this would likely happen, which I agree with, so why risk a like 3 week ban rather than the 2?

On a side note, does anyone else think that it is ridiculous that if you don't fight a charge you get one particular punishment when if you do you get a different?? Why make every charge get heard so that the player gets his day in court? Maybe then the NRL might not be so slap happy to charge players.

I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of some posters who state that the NRL simply charge Manly players for being Manly and that our players have no hope at the judiciary, but then proceed to slam the club for not fighting charges.

Whilst I agree that we should have fought the charges, I also see the argument of not fighting them. This is why I also stated that I have a strong dislike for early guilty pleas. Simply charge the player, then they fight the charge. Simple.

Absolutely spot on.....

Our club should make a public announcement that henceforth we will be contesting all judiciary actions against our players, without exception.

We should then as 'standard procedure' at the hearings, produce compilations of video evidence demonstrating the gross inconsistencies that are prevalent (though without necessarily stating it, it speaks for itself).

Might cop an extra week here and there but my guess is that, over time, the number of our appearances at the judiciary will miraculously diminish.

Nothing the corrupt hate more than a spotlight.

I would expect that JT misses game time. If he does not, this clearly shows some blatant bias from the NRL and MRC, no other words for it.

The NRL really is reaching a new low, it has surpassed the toilet, now it is reaching for the sewer pipes and holding tanks.

And as I fear much like our extremely shallow coaching budget, Narrabeen does not have the funds to contest charges. (Or will not share the funds either/or.)

The fact that Taumalolo was only given a grade 1 is a clear indication that the nrl expect him to contest it and let him off. It was clearly a grade 2 given the contact with the head. No doubt he will be cleared and they will uphold the Scott charge as he will just miss a couple of trial games next season

If Scott has done his ACL and is out for the season can the Cows fight the charge and if they get found guilty, just make him available for the last couple of games to eat up his suspension?

I believe the origin of this despicable perversion of logic actually lies in the real life US Justice System (not the entertainment industry of which the NRL is now apart). Many would be horrified to learn of the thousands of US citizens doing 5 year sentences (for example) in jail because they took an early plea and avoided the 20 year sentence.

Reasons given are to expedite the system, to avoid unnecessary costs to the system blah blah blah.

What they don't tell you is a huge number taking the 5 years were innocent but could not afford a defence attorney so would almost certainly have gotten the 20 years if they defended themselves.

Hmmmm, sounds a bit like the Manly Sea Eagles!!

PS There are, or have been, moves afoot to impose a plea bargaining system in our real life judicial system as well.......
