Coaches Corner - Tom Trbojevic

Tom has always been a superstar in attack. But this year - WOW! I can't believe what a great fullback he has become.
I was one of many questioning Tom's defensive abilities at the back last year and I would like to say how wrong I was.
In the Melbourne game he was so safe under the high ball I didn't get nervous once and his positional play in defence has become what I would expect of a world class fullback. I don't know whether it's influence from Des and/or Snake or just Tom maturing as a player but I wouldn't trade him for anyone right now. 🙂

Interesting to watch, thanks @Mitch, but did Matt Elliott really have to highlight Tom's strengths to the opposition and rest of the world :tmi:

You're right @Go manly. Watching Tom this year I can see the clear similarities and influence Snake has had on his game, with his defence, positional play and direction. Thanks to Des and Snake, and no doubt his maturity and Origin experiences have helped too.

Phew. I was expecting to actually see some in depth analysis that could be used to nullify tommy instead all it was was a giggling blond chick and an out of work mediocre ex coach telling us something 90% of the world already knows. Thanks NRL.com.

gotta make sure we’ve got our gender politically covered arses covered in this new bright bubbly utopian world.

You can never under estimate the snake Muzz

Des gave him one job

He brings a lot to the whole squad
Agreed! That whole put up the bomb and turbo out jumping and stealing the ball for a try was snakes move for years. Him and orford.. now he has to teach dce and turbo the art of the chip n chase. Like foran and snake used to do.. what a player old snake i love that hes back

Biggest improvement in Tom this year is his positional play. He doesn’t get caught in the wrong position in defence anymore and he’s always there in support when we’re in attack. Snake was one of the best positional fullbacks I’ve ever seen. Tom’s improvement may be down to Brett’s coaching but then Des helped Brett build his game in the first place. While there’s no denying his natural ability Tom is benefiting from being in a great system.

Maturing and Snake.

The extra coaches around are the difference

So it’s clear what Snake has added to Turbo’s game, what do we believe Monnas has brought to the team or specific player?

This is not a criticism just a query.

Monnas was at Manly just before the dominant period when the rebuild was well under way, maybe only 3rd to Des and BK who were the leaders of this change, in fact a similar time to now, when Manly went from a bottom 4 side and became legitimate challengers....just in 2019 the growth is probably quicker than expected, but Monna's has walked this path and his 1st hand experience is a valuable asset...that Real "Compete at 100%" Attitude.

I think he is invaluable also

It is a typical Hasler approach that no one is more important than the team And everyone has a role to play

This includes players , coaches and officials and bench players who would all have clear expectations what is expected of them and what they can expect from others

Look at Hoss this year, very dominant in the sheds and warm up and seems to have respect and everyone’s attention

Mr Penn in the sheds last week in the corner very quiet until the coach and players have finished

Seems to know his role in the club and what he needs to do to succeed

Long about way to say that monnas is gold
