Checchined

Today I sat right on half way near the fence on the hill side of the ground. I noticed that we were off side a couple of times every set of six in the second half.
I kept waiting for the Checchined to start blowing the whistle.

It never came.

In all my years of watching from the ground I've never seen the ref give us such a leg up within the 10 meter rule.

The best part of being off side, was that the boys were keen enough to get up in defence and rush the rorters. This reminded me of QLDs defence in origin and to a lesser extent the Storm. It takes a lot of effort to be off side in a straight line over and over again.

I kept waiting to be Checchined but it never came. Woohoo

Could it be that he doesn't hate Manly anymore??

Maybe he hates the Rorters more than us??

Maybe he saw 2013 GF and thought we needed some highlights?

Interesting post. I think systematic offside play is now a norm in the game. Some SDRs just push it a bit more than others. It's often referred to as 'fast line speed'. The refs might ping you once or twice but no more.

True, we did have a decent game with the refs although they weren't as good for us as they were for the panthers a few weeks back. The rorters scored off of a blatant forward pass and had plenty more forward passes all game. I remember a few scenarios where we lost the ball back yet they called it a knock on (like dce raking the ball towards us early on). I just wish they'd only get involved when they really need to (eg high tackles, blantant slowing down of play the ball)

Also we did have a lot of ball so that may explain the reason we got more penalties than them

Great to see the side fix up the completion rate (which was terrible) during half time

Also, why furgo wasn't sin binned or at least put on report (I think he wasn't?) for shoulder charging Parker (who was nowhere near the ball!!) absolutely pissed me off, what a coward

Refs are racist that's why

Bloody oath mate! The use of the term fast line speed is usually just code for offside/going early and if they do it all together and often enough they get away with it or outlast the ref. It ****s me no end.

And worst of all, it is Manly's kryptonite! Parra and the dogs have done it to us for years and got away with it.

The less the refs blow the whistle and the more they just let the teams play - the better Manly goes. We are one of the only teams around playing real football these days, not just grinding out sets waiting for a penalty to actually play attacking football.

Actually I have a well tested theory.................

If it's a tight competitive game, Cecchin will be blowing against us at every opportunity.

When we are getting belted, complacency sets in and he forgets his role.
Best thing that happened was the Rorters early run and jumping out to the 18-4 lead................Cecchin figured they didn't need any help.

By the time we hit the front in the 2nd half, momentum was with us and he'd lost the ability to "control" the game.

I don't know that we can use fast line speed as an excuse today for being offside. Defence still looked like it was happy to wait for attack to come to it.

And we won the penalty count as well. Has the script been re-written to some extent over the last week?
Perhaps the NRL script writers feel that a Manly redemption story in the finals, after going through months of turmoil and damning accusations re the salary cap, will make a nice, feel-good fairytale. After all of those hard times the Manly club rises above it to taste success in the finals. Maybe it will be us that gets the fairytale this year?? Wow what will the script writers think of next? I cant wait for next years episode of NRL

I just hope we get a rose at the final ceremony!

I like the way he spoke to DCE, he atleast showed him some respect not like Henry parmagarma. That bloke wants to out do Harrigan. Dont you just love his rehearsed try signal. He must stand in front of a mirror before each game and rehearse that, lol

Chooks were offside more than twice most sets as well so lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Chechin was also keeping a good 12 most sets and allowing players to be slightly in front, this seems to have become the normal with some refs.

Your mad if you don't stand offside and slow the play the ball down if you ask me. The penalty for not doing it is severe. As we have found out against the Dragons and Storm.

The ref's penalise you 3 or 4 times a game just to appear "fair" regardless of what you do even if you act like angels. They penalise you 7 to 8 times is you flout all the rules all game ( eg Storm ). And once or twice a year the refs take a hard line and penalise you 10 to 12 times a game , after at which your coach blows and gets a $10k fine and then next week you win the penalty count.

I swear Bellamy is happy to give away his 7 or 8 penalties a game just to know that the opposition will never get a fast play the ball in any circumstance.

Moral to the story - give away penalties on the first tackle, and when the opposition is attacking your line ( as many as you can without getting binned ) - then in between times stand offside all day the ref's will stop penalising you once they've given a few. Eg the Roosters in the 2013 GF and Storm in every game they play. Heck we aint bad at it ourselves.

He let a few roosters forward passes go but also gave us some leniency as well and work out well for us.

The pass from Keary to Tupou to make it 16-4 the worst. I bet he was spoken to about it at half time. I thought personally it was quite obvious. We got some shocking decisions mate, shocking and still managed to smash them from 35 minutes in at almost a point-per-minute.

I think that Checcin is easily swayed by the home team crowd..

Would be interesting to see his stats on penalty counts vs home/away teams..
