I had to put that red herring in there about Richie and Peters being experts, otherwise it would have been too believable.

Spooky - I wrote that fake article on the 9th, and then the whole Starling thing based on a still photo was in yesterday's Tele!

Nrl announces overhaul of judiciary
9 August. news.com.au

A raft of sweeping changes to the match review committee were announced today which will see the introduction of still photography as a key tool in the NRL's efforts to ensure Manly are hindered from attaining the minor and major premierships. Future games will be photographed using the Daily Telegraph's arsenal of 35mm cameras. The films will be rushed to the local chemist, and 7 to 14 days later the prints will be couriered to sports editor at large Phil Rothfield for forensic analysis. A committee comprising experts Dean Ritchie and Peter Peters will assist in the task of poring over each print looking for evidence of illegal contact. Manly players will be stood down from games until the photographs have been perused.

A critic of the new scheme, Manly coach Geoff Toovey, has been labelled a "whinger" by the NRL. Dave Smith said today in a media release crafted by 27 PR operatives "the new system will ensure transparency, and enable news ltd, the owners of the nrl, the daily telegraph and courier mail, to maximise negative publicity for Manly and assist our clubs to make the top 4. And Souths, because we will sell lots of papers if they make the finals."

I find it very hard to believe that anybody would call Dean Ritchie and Peter Peters experts. Other than that, nothing really surprising here.

You know it's a joke, don't you?

You're right mate, it is an absolute joke. But whatever doesn't kill us will make us stronger.

Josh Starling will front the NRL judiciary tomorrow night after pleading not guilty to the Grade 1 Dangerous Contact - unnecessary pressure to the head/neck - charge levelled against him by the Match Review Committee.

Starling was put on report by the on-field referees for the tackle on Rabbitohs half Luke Keary in the 62nd minute of the match.

The club decided against challenging the front-rowers second charge (Grade 1 Dangerous Contact – Unnecessary Contact with the face) and have taken the early-guilty plea.

Had the charge been of a higher grading or more serious offence (e.g Contrary Conduct) the Club would’ve sought further legal advice and possibly fought the charge.

If Starling is successful at Rugby League Central on Wednesday night, he will be free to play against the Titans this Sunday.

Interesting move by Manly. Bizarre that he can play if he pleads Guilty to one and not the other

Lets hope that it all turns out for the better

Nothing more to say on this except the MRC is fracking joke. Find a ****ing mirror and have a good long look at yourselves you muppets

Rugby league is need of a rebel competition starting up. Manly will be in it and whatever other clubs want to play real rugby league again.

Bird's "headbutt" last night was pretty innocuous but no more so than Starlo or JSL's "crushers".

There is just no rhyme or reason when it comes to the MRC.

Must admit watching JWH demand a send off for a headbutt did make me chuckle.

And my question here again is, what happens if the appeal fails?

Does Josh face further suspension as happens in other cases?

What about the kasiano crusher, way worse than any of these so called infringements and nothing, nada. Must be due to the fact that he pretty much tacklers every time like that so it's ok for him to do it

As previously stated in HappilyManly's comment:

"The club decided against challenging the front-rowers second charge (Grade 1 Dangerous Contact – Unnecessary Contact with the face) and have taken the early-guilty plea"

The charge carries the maximum penalty of 100 points but because he didn't challenge it, the penalty is reduced and he only gets 75 carry over points instead.

As he has decided to plead not guilty to the "Grade 1 Dangerous Contact - unnecessary pressure to the head/neck" charge leveled against him by the Match Review Committee, he faces a further 100 points if his appeal fails.

Total points if he fails in his appeal is 175 points which is one week out (100 points) plus 75 carry over points hanging over his head.

If his appeal is successful then he will only face the 75 carry over points hanging over his head from the unchallenged "Grade 1 Dangerous Contact – Unnecessary Contact with the face" charge and he will be free to play this weekend.

I read that the NRL has now come out and said the referees should be sending players off for foul play.

Expect a few over-reactions by the refs over the next couple of weeks. Players will need to behave until the next problem takes the refs focus.

Don't worry just read the other thread. Common sense prevails, it was a ridiculous report in the first place.
