Can we take some positives? Can we get a grip?

We defended well on our own line in the 2nd half. Some nice Kelly runs. Some good Tapau hits. Some classic Jake T tackling. Those are the only positives of note I saw.

Positives;

Kelly impressed for a kid with no NRL experience
Uate overachieved given his history
Green added stability and an option (not brilliant)
Taupau demolishes when he doesn't drop the ball
Winterstein did OK nothing wrong
Perret showed an off load but little else
Sironen dropped off tackles but showed skill

Negatives;
Api isn't a 1st grade hooker but tries hard.
myles isn't even a park footballer and doesn't try
brown is only impact because Api is not a 1st grade hooker

no change;
ADF - fitter same result
Lawrence - the jig before the line is back
DCE - outplayed by Norman (sad)
WAlker - OK but no better than last year
Turbos - J as good, T struggled a bit
Taufua - same Jorge same carries - all good

All in all more positives than negatives, but it will be a long season without the positives becoming far more positive, and the no changes going up a level.

Sadly I believe some succumbed to the clear hate and propaganda from the drunkard. After getting smashed by an awful call The Fidler called us soft and exercised some expected schadenfreude - expected from the illiterate hand grasped (seriously the fool exercises public speaking 101 - clasp release and repeat) after defending 376 sets from a drop out Fidler said nothing and the sheeple thought we were crap

That much possession, and some stupid discipline and handling issues killed us. We can rectify this

I was hoping someone would hear Fitlers comments when he was ragging on us after a parra try...then go over and throw him off the field.

I wanted to jump through my television and beat the living daylights out of him for saying we failed when they scored. The fact is that a complete referee blunder meant we were on the back foot and trying to defend our own line when we should have had a penalty 70 metres downfield.

Curious, did anyone see the death stare DCE gave Atkins when he was walking back to watch Gutho take the conversion? You could tell he wanted to unload on him for that call, but thought better of it because it could have landed him in the bin.

Although he didn't have his best game by a long shot, I thought Cherry handled himself well today in his first real game as captain of the side.

I personally think we just lack the cohesion in attack to win against stern opposition so early in the year. You can train and train and train but nothing can prepare the team like playing in match conditions. It will come together with time. In wet conditions against a resilient side like the Eels, you have to respect the ball and put the fancy football in the rack for a day and win ugly.

I would be much more concerned if our defence and/or attitude looked off because that is harder to fix. We hit harder and tougher than the Eels in defence and had a lot less petrol to do so. It was just our execution that let us down and gave the Eels a mountain of ball.
Yes this defence will allow us to build well for the season and beyond. With the attack well we will definately get a hell of a lot better although I think we used the ball well when in good field position, the ball-security was off.

Oh I was pissed alright, as if he just apologised to dce, doesn't make the costly error okay. Pathetic call by Atkins, a few other questionable ones

OK if we are gonna be positive, then lets think back to 2011 Rnd 1. Manly lost to Melbourne 18-6 in a game that was very similar.

Boy I still remember us all on here howling about the end of an era after that, and yes I was part of it.

Manly then ended up winning the comp.

So on that, we should perhaps learn from it and keep our heads up. Manly will be better for the run, and Parra look like a top 4 side in my opinion. High quality and very fit.
