Bunker Blunder

The Bunker is causing more problems than it solves. But people like me have been saying this for years.
Why do we need it?

Conspiracy theory time....

NRL absolutely loves the controversy. More outrage, more clicks, more internet posts, more headlines, more press......ultimately more money.

They don't want a consistently administered game. That would be boring, seemingly.

Why would they change anything?

The refs and bunker are the lowest level I’ve ever seen since 1980. There’s always incorrect decisions and a some interpretations however currently it is just insane how poor quality the match officials are.

If you messed up as much as they do each week in any other job in the world you’d be fired.

It's 80% "entertainment" 20% sport these days

Again the answer is simple but the NRL don't want to do anything about it. Anusley needs to be in the bunker every week of every game, instead of coming out every Monday to spin his crap and bore the hell out of everyone.
Why is it the fans and commentators watching the replays mostly agree on a play/decision, yet the bunker comes up with the complete opposite? Betting agencies having too much influence maybe?

We were dudded 100% on that call and the only reason I passed it off was the fact we got the 2 points
Overall we got some dubious calls at times slso and I feel the 1 point win was about right
Refs/ officials are often crap, but 1 thing I do at the end of any game is weigh up the score with what happened during the game and judge if the outcome is fair and in this particular game feel a 1 point win either way was a fair result and just glad we were the Winners

Dudded call, yes. I don’t agree with the other observation, Maxta. If I step back and look at that game honestly, Cows really dominated most of the general play (outside the first 10 minutes). They constantly rolled up field with momentum and advantage. They lost the game on the back of poor final execution. I was often baffled to find us leading in that game given what I was seeing… perhaps we just have very different perspectives? All cool.

Why can't they just have like the same panel of 3 in the bunker for each game every round?! Surely that would deliver some consistency?!

I hate The Bunker but I sympathise with the on field ref who has to interpret ridiculous new rules as well as having an earpiece with some Vidiot giving instructions. RL has become too complicated. Every season there are new rules, taking away the feel for the sport refs used to have.
One ref miscounted to six once in the match and the Cronulla officials want an official enquiry. Fair dinkum. Refs are expected to be perfect in the heat of battle. There is no excuse for The Bunker.

I know we won, so I should probably just move on, but I've seen this let go a few times this round since, and it pisses me off.

In what I felt was a match defining moment, when Saab leapt for the ball, and only had eyes for the ball, for it to be determined a penalty by the bunker (video ref), was beyond comprehension.

I get that it's Manly, and not The Storm, Panthers or Chooks, (where the rugby league community.would have lost their ****).

Am I completely biased, or was this an absolute balls up at the worst possible time by the bunker?

I'm also surprised it got absolutely no airtime.

Shocker. You know if Brandy was losing his ****, in favour of us, something was very terribly wrong there.
It was a absolutley shocking call.

The bunker is a debarcle and the NRL need to stop sitting on their hands and fix it befor next season. Get rid of it or just use to confirm the forcing of the ball over the try line and the captains challenge thats it. Having a secong official looking for reasons to disallow a try or looking for infringements is a waste of time as they miss many as it is or alternately they swing the momentum of a game finding a infriongment back a few plays and the reported player doesn't even get charged. Too mnay fingers in the pie.

What about the whack in the head Saab got from Tualagi in scoring one of his tries, it stunned him ---- crickets from the officials

Cant wait for the Monday spin from Anusley today.

Yet Feldt did exactly the same thing a few minutes later to Talau but no penalty. The refs and bunker need a sponsorship from Specsavers.
Johns in the Knights v Raiders game said, can you do a Captains challenge on a bunker decision...the way he said it..lol.

Not so much different, definitely Cows rolled strongly and the Manly defence scrambled well with effort plays and the Cows had 3 very good opportunities they didn't cash in on and in fact, Cows played very, very well and both teams had energy....and I certainly see your perspective because the Cows were on top in many patches of the game
I did however feel we were dudded that particular call and another on half time where DCE hit Saab with a tasty cutout pass and he had to simply pass inside to any of 3 Manly players but went astray and that was 2 certain tries to Manly and Cows butchered 3, so both teams missed opportunities
As you called it, Cows had long periods of domination, but I never seen a white flag from Manly and they all put in defensively shutting down half chances with committed defence
I do get you view though, but reallproud Manly didn't "cave in" as I reckon Cows would have put 40+ points on most teams and won that game well, but Manly were there to play and I think the win in the end was reward for effort

In my opinion, too many rules have come into an essentially simple game. This is a major cause of the apparent inconsistencies we see each and , every week.

But it is a professional sport, so NRL coaches try to (and do) exploit every rule and its interpretation so their team can gain an advantage.

If the admin didn't react and add/change some rules as needed, then eventually you'd end up with a sport that no one would pay to watch.

Every year though?

Even mid season, at times.

Sure, tweak the rules as required, but give it some time to play out before the next tweak ffs.
