Bunker Blunder

Journey Man
I know we won, so I should probably just move on, but I've seen this let go a few times this round since, and it pisses me off.

In what I felt was a match defining moment, when Saab leapt for the ball, and only had eyes for the ball, for it to be determined a penalty by the bunker (video ref), was beyond comprehension.

I get that it's Manly, and not The Storm, Panthers or Chooks, (where the rugby league community.would have lost their ****).

Am I completely biased, or was this an absolute balls up at the worst possible time by the bunker?

I'm also surprised it got absolutely no airtime.

Shocker. You know if Brandy was losing his ****, in favour of us, something was very terribly wrong there.

Yeah it was a joke of decision - anyway hopefully we will get the rub of the green next couple of weeks

Just another of the rule interpretations that they're trying to make black and white.

It's like if you don't get the ball you need your arms to disappear and/or put yourself in danger and balance yourself.

As l mentioned in another thread, if Garrick gets tackled short it's six again and play on.

Don't watch the Roosters Knights highlights then, if you care for any sort of consistency anyway.

I agree, the same thing happened to us 5-10 mins later and was play on because it didn't result in a potential try, no continency at all.

And, the biggest tell that Saab was purely going for the ball, was that he came down with his hands "holding the ball" that he didn't catch....if that makes sense..
Yet Feldt did exactly the same thing a few minutes later to Talau but no penalty. The refs and bunker need a sponsorship from Specsavers.

Meh, I’m happy with the call. It could have gone either way. Saab was going for the ball but he did drag the other players hands back. I think we got lucky with the cowboys try called back for a forward pass.
Yep, forward pass calls are a lottery, the ones they call and the ones they don't.

Also, on watching the game highlights this morning l'm surprised they didn't scrutinise Saab's last try.
When they knocked it on and the ball hits Brown l reckon Jake was in front of him so accidental offside but it wasn't even mentioned in commentary.

But that's the bunker, some they look at for an eternity, others nothing to see here.

I'm sitting on the lounge, saying no try, accidental offside.....they never even looked at it, amazingly.

I don't get too caught up with the Ref stuff...obviously you can dissect each decision along the way and feel lucky or hard done by. I mean the Cowboys fans must be going crazy over that forward pass call.

But zooming out a bit, we have had some stuff go our way this year and it pretty much evens out.

Just as pathetic as Salmon from the Dogs not even being penalised for a high shot on Te Maire Martin only for the MRO to suspend him for 2 games.

That did cost the Warriors the game.
Yeah, that was definitely the worst non-call I've ever seen. And it's not like the Bunker didn't get the opportunity to look at it. Play was stopped, they looked at it for all of five seconds, and gave it the all-clear. Throw in a charge-down on a field goal from Reed "Most Punchable Face in Rugby League" Mahoney when he was at least three metres offside, and the Warriors were well and truly shafted.

Without the bunker it would have been disallowed anyway as the ref sent it up as a no try.
The bunker gets more right than wrong.

No..the onfield refs get more right than wrong.

The bunker shouldn't get any wrong.

They literally can sit there, with endless replays, and work it the fk out.....no excuses.

There’s a dozen bunker blunders every week , Annersley has to cover that up every time he fronts the media.

I don’t think at any time in that incident that Saabie wasn’t concentrating 100% on the ball, it wasn’t a blocking play it was a “ if I can grab this ball it could be a try “.

I agree with you @Ryan

Trouble is , it’s done & dusted and nothing will come of it.

Good point, especially considering Feldt did the exact same to Talau a few minutes later & it was nothing to see here, play on.

The Bunker is causing more problems than it solves. But people like me have been saying this for years.
Why do we need it?
