Brookvale Oval Upgrades

Just been listening to Mestrov on the rugby league Roundtable

He said they have given up on any funding, so have been working away on some plans in the background to put tenders out to developers, and some announcements will be coming out about the process.

Will start out as a JV with the council with the plan going ahead that Manly will end up with some ownership down the track

I think the Hill would suffer if a stand was built behind it. I'd rather see the Hill become a 'mountain' and not the grassy knoll it currently is. I've been sitting on the Hill since the early 1960s and I'm sure it has shrunk.
What needs redevelopment are the old Jane Try Stand and the old Fulton-Menzies stand. Put on an additional deck, at least, to each stand and add modern facilities. This could be done one stand at a time to minimise disruption and limit crowd reduction.

Better and easier access to facilities eg beer/food/toilets etc on the hill will be required as part of any refurb.

The JV talk Mestrov referred to has been around for years.

And years.

And years.

I suspect the part of the park/oval the club aspires to own, might include a new leagues club.

However unless the Council has done a complete 180 on relinquishing a public park to private ownership, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Of course if the do pull it off, I will be as happy as anybody else.

Just need a stand behind the Hill. As long as we keep the Hill I'll be happy.
I doubt that they will put a stand behind the hill, for one thing, that would be a monumental job and also there would have to be a height restriction due to the neighbouring houses, so the hill with the grandstand behind it wold probably be too high.

Maybe so Pete, would they demolish some of the older stands then?. Why would there be a height restriction, the Centre of Excellence that was built, is a good height tbh.

For years I used to sit (or stand) on the hill and loved it. Then I had kids and moved to the new stand....honestly it is a different world when it comes to watching the game.

I loved the hill but if there was a world where it was replaced with a stand I think that is the way to go

I can understand your point Iza, but, it's an iconic part of Brookie tho. It's where our fanatical supporters are, and the famous.. Mannleey ...chant comes from. Just sayin'..

They could do something similar to what Penrith did with the grandstand behind their outer hill. Though I wonder if Brookie's hill would go the same way eventually being replaced by seating?

The part that annoys me is when V'Landy,s came out spruiking that he intends to save the boutique grounds but yet the only boutique ground that is getting help is Leichhardt oval

Manly fans accept that the remaining hill area is part of the ground’s charm - blah blah blah - however if we ever want to be a consistent RL superpower again, then we need a stadium to match.

The grassy knoll/hill doesn’t do that for us.

Looks great on the telly (or in person) when it’s packed. However it doesn’t boost the financial bottom line in the way that another Bob Fulton-style stand, with corporate facilities and general amenities (toilets, kiosks) to match, will.

So I believe these still roughly conform to what both Council and the Club aspire to, with provisions made for Big Tony’s affordable housing option.

EXACTLY what it should look like. I see no reason why the area under one of the longer stands couldn't become the leagues club (the original one being sold previously).
