Brookvale Oval – redevelopment over the off season? ..!!

unfortunately, I think this caption in the Manly Daily this morning captures the total who gives a fuk about Manly and Brookie Oval from the politicians.

Meanwhile, the local council charge Manly the highest ground rental in the NRL for the worst ground - there needs to be an investigation.

The likeness of Bronwyn Magic Mike and Pony Rabbit is pretty poorly drawn....

Like this was ever going to happen
No redevelopment at all of brookvale oval
You all know with the state and federal elections coming the good old “ we are manly’s number one supporter and we pledge x amount of funding dollars if you vote for me “ will be hitting the airways over the coming months.

I was told this from the horses mouth. Ken Arthurson previously personally phoned Tony Abbott (our number 1 member, wasn't he?) when he was premier of the state, and plead our case for injection of funds for an upgrade of Brookvale Oval.

I'm obviously not going to get this word for word, but this is how I remember it said. Tony Abbott said, "why would I do that, when we are such a strong blue ribbon area".

Ken Arthurson was irrate, so he personally phoned John Howard, who apologised , and that's when the club got the promisary 10M in funding, no thanks to.our number one member in Abbott, and his arrogance.

Bank that.

Hey Ryan, I thought he was Prime Minister? Isn't that Australia not NSW Premier...…. all is good my friend, get what your saying. More importantly we would be still no chance with a Labor Govt as well. I reckon the next biggy will be an upgrade to Penrith's, good Labor area.

It was before that. Morris Iemma was the state leader actually when we first were promised funds . Abbot was maybe the local leader (not sure). Howard was the head honcho.

Unsure of the timing. I don't know, but that was the story. I didn't ask too many questions.

Well some old wooden benches (from the 1970 vintage) - the benches around the ground (North/East corner) were being replaced (in the last few weeks) - wait for it …. replaced by wooden (same style) benches – yeah !

But more exciting news I believe the broken electronic scoreboard for over a year? (or is that now 2 years broken?) – is being replaced by a new screen that will also hold a TV Screen in it as well (for replays !). We now don’t have to truck in a mobile rented TV screen on a truck for the TV replays anymore? ..!!

Also we got a new bubbler on the hill ( … each bubbler gets a name of a former player). This one will be known as the ‘Stewy Davies bubbler’, to go with the Terry Randall & Alan Thompson bubblers !

These arethe new Brookie improvements made in the off season !
What happened to the old benches, they should auction those puppies off

Penrith will definitely get an upgrade, however it's not a strong Labor area, it's more of a swinging area [I mean in regards to voting, perhaps the other also], and that's why it will always get funds ahead of Warringah.

@The Wheel note to Lyall -
The 40,000 seats being thrown out by the demo of the SFS could be recycled and replace the benches at Brookie :lightbulb:

Pollies are always talking about recycling, well give these prefab seats to suburban grounds !

Surprised that some Journo didn't ask what happens to all the seats, the toilets, the catering equipment ect :wait:

The actual cement stands will be ground down and reused.
