Bravest individual performance in origin ever on debut

Good to see Tom get some confidence back.

Got smashed by Inglis a few times but just bounced up and played better and better as the game went on as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Scored a great try to top it all off.

Hopefully translates back to some form for Manly, although I agree that Tom probably benefitted from playing with less pressure being on the wing in an origin game compared to being the go to man at fullback at Manly.

What great wingers they were.

I wish we could get the fox at manly. He’s become my favorite player. The guy is a champion too good to be at the purple scum
I hope Tommy comes back to us with his confidence restored so he can tear the Warriors a new one on Saturday. Hoping that Tommy and Jake will continue to star for NSW for years to come. These two are great players and more importantly wonderful human being.

Speaking of the Fox -how about the time he took the ball and it was debatable if in goal, he snaps left and finds open space - Goneskiiis all day, but gets called back.
The defence had not stopped and how the hell this is playing the advantage I'm stumped....almost like this defensive penalty in the play ball area and the attacking team gets called back to receive a penalty, after they scored a try - what advantage rule ??

Turbo had an excellent debut. Teddy was the only guy who i thought outplayed him (Teddy was next level last night).

One thing is for sure. DCE needs to put some more contested bombs up for turbo to challenge.

We keep using Turbo for the extra man overlap out wide, time for a change.

Think he revelled in being just one of the team rather than a "go to" guy. Watching him last night makes you wonder how he drops so many for us.

He seemed very focussed .

Perhaps the pressure of being the rear custodian being off him contributed to that?

Last night was the grubbiest performance I've ever seen from Inglis. He tried to put in a cheap shot and every single tackle that he made and every time he got tackled he lashed out try to clip someone in the head with a stray elbow or fist.
Well someone had to pick up for scam smyth

Safe as houses, and tough tough runs out of our end.

I saw Jake got a 6 in the ratings? Seriously. The guys smashed everyone who came near him!

They also gave James Roberts a 6 when he was a 4....at best. The only thing he did do all night was he actually defended well, belying his reputation as a poor defender. Other than that he didn't go looking for the ball and was barely sighted in attack.

I wouldn't read much into the media's ratings. The only ones from both sides they really got right were Tedesco and Cook.

Yep they definitely had him as a major target and ripped in with extra attention at every opportunity.
He showed courage and by end game got his reward with a spectacular try.
That try was scored plenty in juniors as he out leaps most.
Last night took the ball of a renowned catcher in Holmes which raises a question I have been curious about watching Manly games.
Why is this weapon not used more often in club games....Tom would go close on most occasions if not score?

Have you seen the Qld fans on Twitter? They're screaming blue murder that it should have been a double movement because Munster had a hand on him and was obviously making a tackle.

Munster was only going for the ball and the only reason he even had a hand on Tom's leg was because he was falling. If that is what they think is a tackle.....they're clutching at straws.

Raving like manly fans did when Matai used to do it?

While I do agree to a point, Skivvy used to regularly belt forwards who were much taller and about 10-15 kg heavier. You didn't see 1nglis rushing up to belt Klemmer or Jake or Vaughan.

As I said last night though, Tom and 1nglis are roughly the same size (Tom is 194cm and 102 kg, 1nglis is 195 and 105) so its not like he was picking out someone who was only about the size of Tooves.

His momentum took him over anyway. He didn't really promote the ball, he just kind of bounced over.

It was all because of Ray Warren having a senior moment and the QLD’rs lapping it up. Momentum carried him over so doesn’t matter whether he had a hand on him or not.

They were clutching at straws. Do you think if it had been Holmes or Gagai who'd scored that they'd be claiming double movement? Even if they had a NSW player actually clutching their legs in an obvious tackle they'd all claim it was momentum and would be telling NSW fans to suck it up.

But the shoe is on the other foot so they're crying a river.

Typical Qld Origin fans. Unsufferable winners and poor losers.

Its not hard when we have the ball in attack for Tommy to go out on a wing either, and Uate etc to go to fullback for a few plays. See if Trent takes up the option I guess!

It would be nice if we had more options than just Tom do do that. No offence to Jorge or Aku, but while their runs from the back shouldn't be under valued because they take a lot of pressure from the forwards in early tackles, neither are any sort of aerial threat in attack like we saw from Tom in Origin and both are a liability under a high kick in defence, even if its just fielding a downfield kick with little to no pressure on them.

I know Tom himself has dropped a few bombs and downfield kicks this year which has hurt. But hopefully after his flawless display for NSW under the high ball he can bring that confidence back to his play for Manly and dropped balls become the exception rather than the norm.

I took Cook for the Mom award

Thats the thing - a FB can roam anywhere the team will benefit
Can also see teams setting extra players defensively as blocks to try eliminate this threat and in turn will open up space and attacking options elsewhere, which adds a bit more unpredictability also.
