In all seriousness, what were the players doing drinking to that extent only 8 days out from the Season opener? Now I am not one to advocate a total booze ban on players (I don't it'd work, and it's also probably not fair in general, similar to it happening to ourselves in our own work environment), but I do think they should be drinking in moderation during the season (for fitness purposes as much as anything else), and I think it was a bit irresponsible of the players and club management to allow it all to happen. I obviously don't know the full details of what happened between Watmough and the sponsor (neither does anyone not present), but it's fair to say that Choc had too much grog that night, as he himself admitted in the interviews. Surely someone should have been on hand to make sure the players only had a couple of drinks and were acting both appropriately and socially responsible a) with sponsors and guests present, and b) so close to the season start. What do you all think?
Also, did you see Patrick Smith's article in today's Australian? Basically calling for Brett to be sacked for bringing the game into disrepute. Has he ever heard of 'innocent until proven guilty'? What an idiot for writing that without knowing yet the full facts and details about what happened. If Stewart is found guilty, then he obviously will go, but to call for that beforehand is totally irresponsible for a journo.
