Body shapes

Reserve Grader
One factor underestimated this year is the difference in body shapes in our prop rotation.

I can't think of any team that has more variation. Having Marty/AFB/ Perrett/ Lane and Kelepi charging at you means five different body shapes to tackle.

I recall Crusher once talking about the importance of different body shapes in the forwards. Oppositions get used to the same types of forwards running at them. Having a tall prop, wrecking-ball short prop, refrigerator-style prop (AFB) etc etc adds another element.

Compare that to the Eels who essentially had five forwards (ex hooker) who are all about the same size. Again, it's smart coaching /recruitment by Trent and co.

Definitely something to consider. There is no way you can go high on Marty without support. Is this why he always gets a hand free for an offload? AFB is just such a solid unit, hence the metres after contact. Sooo tough to bring down someone with such a low centre of gravity. Tangi is a beast. Lane has some skills, and Perret, always looking to spin the big barrell chest for an offload.

And then there is Jake ... My job here is done.
AFB comes at you with the big butt. Marty is leg drive. Jake is all head.

Perrett is just a massive human though, more a truck than a fridge

Six props in the team is the way to go for sure! Marty, AFB, Jake on the park with Perrett, Lane & Kelepi off the bench ... just launch at the opposition and smash them through the middle
