Last year NSW were caught short defensively by having a specialist half on the bench. Qld has the luxury of Hunt as a fill in hooker, a great player and a great defender. My question is who is our best option as a utility ? Should selection be weighted on defense 70% attacking prowess 30% or the other way round ?

QLD have the luxury of the Dynamic and Dominant Maroon DNA feathered friend
This has been evident from Day one of the SOO series
Sadly the Blind Blues can not see this as they keep living in denial

Blues too much flashy. Not enough Grit.

Tis why the Blues struggle every time Jake doesn't play.

When it comes to tough hookers who can win that battle up the middle with Jake.

Birds of a feather stick together.

Honestly it depends on Trell and Turbo.

If those guys are both fit then I would think there is a different style of footy being played which then impacts your bench. As goos as QLD have been I am pretty sure that when those two play it is a much closer game

My issue with Freddie is it felt that there were often players (like Nico) who were selected without a plan or idea of how to use them bar an injury.

Look at how QLD always use a Ponga off the bench as a middle etc.

Couldn't have imagined saying this a couple of years ago, but Croker wouldn't be out of place in that arena. In fact, more and more, I'm thinking he's actually built for Origin

IMO, you need a backrower who can cover centre, or a replacement back on the bench who is big enough to play in the forwards. When in form, Burton would suit as does Wighton (if he made himself available). Other players who could maybe fill this niche are Tago, Best & Bird.

I'd pick Gutherson or Dylan Walker as 14, someone who can play in the backs but can also bring energy around the middle.
