This game was hijacked by the ref. There were five penalties against MW in the first five minutes. MW did well to defend and actually scored the first try. But the match was a boring, stop-start affair. MW didn't have any attacking flow. Tom Wright couldn't break the defence, and I doubt Jade Anderson touched the ball in the entire match - except when he was bringing the ball back for a seven tackle restart and flying into a yawning gap . . . and the ref called him back for some pissant reason.
The fullback, Honeti Tuhu, played well, and the hooker Manese Fainu was in everything. Tent was active and I think he'll be the first replacement forward called into first grade, for Tango. Darcy was ineffective. Poo looked ordinary, even in this company. He did get creamed (not a apt adjective) after passing the ball and had to go off, with the tackler being placed on report. But he returned, and was lacklustre. Frankenstein didn't play and warmed up with the 1st grade squad, and will be the obvious replacement for Sironen.
All in all it was a disappointing performance, but the penalties must have been 20 to 6 or so I estimate to Mountees and that meant they had about 70% of possession.
Refs are killing rugby league.
