Bird gone to Broncos

Hunt certainly wasn't on a mil a season, my argument is also about their seemingly unlimited TPA's

It's ridiculous full stop, sorry don't know why I'm blowing up so much about this
Bird isn't on a million a season that goes to the cap either. He is getting $2million over 3 or 4 yrs,not sure if that's for the 3 or the 4th yr because the 4th is an option in Birds favour.Either way it's not $1 million a yr on the cap.It may add up to a million with TPA's but that's good luck for him.

Good on Jack Bird for making as big a pay packet as he can. What these guys put their bodies through is ridiculous.

But how can the NRL take themselves seriously ? Trying to use the salary cap to even the competition can't work in it's current guise.

How the game continues to survive with these morons in charge is beyond me.

I don't think they would have signed Bird with a view to playing him at 5/8. I reckon he'll be at centre or lock.

Bird and Milford in the halves? Neither is a halfback and its debatable if either are a true 5/8.

For my money they are still after Ash Taylor. I know he's contracted to the Coke Coast, but it wouldn't surprise me.....

I have no doubt that the NRL could come up with numerous ways to ensure a better/fairer cap and TPA system, that would not impede players earning capacities.

However they are obviously complicit in the fact that some clubs are knowingly able to buy a competitive side and even a premiership. i.e. GF 2013. The game can be manipulated by various forces like officiating and money to ensure certain results for "the product". Unfortunately though, some players are churned, burned and used up in the process. As well as a lot of passionate fans who believe their is hope for their team to win a premiership. Alternatively some players hit the jackpot and well done to them. However, it is not hard to pick at least four teams early on in the season who are no doubt chosen as the 'special' teams for the year. And on the other end of the scale it is equally clear to see a few teams that are not deemed special at all and who are going to have to work twice as hard to try and not finish in 16th place.

And I truly think that Manly overall have achieved incredible success, mostly against the odds IMO.

Anyway, as it stands today, the NRL is definitely not a fair competition. And as I mentioned before it can be changed to be fairer and quite easily so actually. But the powers to be, simply don't want it to be.

It sucks to the average person, but that is how the world works...we don't all get paid what we think we deserve, bosses don't want to pay what we think our staff is worth. It is a big business with a lot on stake, you take what you can,you give what you can afford/get away with.To expect that this is/has been/ever will be an even playing field is naive,we have been fortunate up to this point.Be appreciative for what you have and what you have been able to achieve in life and smile. Was just watching a doco about life in the states and saw a story about the city of St.Louis in the USA and how over the last 25 years they have had a population decline from 1.1 mill to 300K (I am A NFL fan and follow the Philly eagles)This year the St.Louis Rams are moving to LA and if you saw the doco you would accept why.A first world country and city that has an NFL team and is leaving to chase the money because the city they are in can't even afford to fund public schools, the NFL teams are privately owned and if the profits aren't there the team will leave.Appreciate the Sea Eagles and what this great club has achieved because you don't know what is around the corner....We need to make sure this club can financially compete or we will go the way of the dinosaurs.Bag the Penns etc... but they are helping this club to survive. We have to compete against teams that have the advantage against us now as we have had the advantage in years gone by.We need to fight/claw and struggle to survive against the odds placed against us by the forces that others have made obviously clear. But to me this is what makes Manly,Manly. My Grandad lived in the area and supported the club,my dad did so too,I lived in Sydney for many years but not in the Manly area,(when I was 5 my Aunt who was a Rabbitohs supporter bought me a Rabbitohs jersey for my birthday, the next day my old man went out and bought me a Sea Eagles jersey and said to me that no son of mine would support the Rabbitohs).I have supported this team for so many years and until this team is completely and utterly dead and buried I will think we can beat any team, any weekend no matter what(no matter how much my brain says we will get kicked).

Sorry, rant over....glad we have not signed Bird, think he is good effort player but overated (particularly with his arthritis will be a shadow of himself in a couple of years).Good on him for getting his contract, but unless the Donkeys have something up their sleeve with player selections I think this is not a logical signing for them and would not be excited if I was a supporter.....

I don't think they'd pay around a mil a season for an unproved lock, maybe though although I just reckon he'll be a fullback or 5/8

Love your passion Joe. And interesting to hear about the St. Louis Rams.

Not sure if you may have missed my comment that said 'Manly overall have achieved incredible success mostly against the odds, IMO'.

So was just stating that at this point in time the NRL etc, is exactly what it is, and that I totally think Manly are truly amazing in the face of so much inequality so to speak. I love my team and love what makes Manly, Manly...!!

However, I am also somewhat of an idealist and that is me and I have come to accept that. I just question the way the world works and wonder if things can be changed for the better and I think they can. Won't go into my thought process on this. But when you see blatant cheating, blatant rigging of competitions etc I really think that is just unacceptable no matter what 'society' is or says how things are or aren't.

But getting back to Bird and the Donkey's, who cares they can have him. Lol......!!

Go the Mighty Manly Sea Eagles.....!!

What's the issue you have with the TPA's?

Ok we know the Broncos have no salary cap, have a seven day turn around as they always play the Friday, they have Brisbane as their entire junior area, they have more home games than every other team as Manly play the Brookvale game at Suncorp. Somehow with all these advantages they can not win anything. I think the Broncos should automatically receive 10 points start in every game. With this advantage the Broncos may be competitive.

Nah mate I read it,I agree with what you said,I was just having my own personal rant.Nothing was aimed at anything you said,it just inspired me to say what I did.

We choose to take a home game to Brookvale Nth.... $$$$

True, but I was not winging about Manly being disadvantaged. My point is the Broncos get more home games than every other teams .

Its pretty clear whats going on here. News and the coqs who have a seat on the board are privy to the cap increase. When they have finished signing their targets the 2018 cap will be announed. Tedesco will go to the coqs amd forlorn to the scum.

You're "spot on" fellow eagle, I've been thinking this for some time. Broncos and Melbourne are given an armchair ride year after year. Parramatta, Roosters and Bulldogs get a reasonable run too.

Ridiculous... The nrl seriously need to investigate the Broncos cap and make a salary cap on TPA's, it's beyond a joke, imagine being a knights fan and having Bird swept away by the biggest cap cheats in the nrl's history

A strong Newcastle would be great for the game. Feel for this side. They have only won 5 or 6 of their last 50 games and are a proud rugby league town. This is just not good enough NRL. The rich get richer, the poor get the scraps. I think our club is doing really well to survive in this current climate of third party agreements. Is it fair ... hell no!
