BIG - Young - Pack ready for 2018

Regardless of the Era, forward packs hold the key to success.
This Huge , young pack of forwards led by Jake and Kapow can stick it to NRL teams far and wide in 2018 in the ways of Power, Size , Skill and Ability.
The youngsters like AFB, Sirro, Gosiewski and Perrett will relish playing in this growing pack, especially with the addition of the experienced , tough, no nonsense Thompson who will add new leadership to a pack brimming with talent.
The youngsters like Tanginoa, Paseka, Lane and Sipley will also be pushing for a shot and this is a healthy situation to be in....
This will add even more thrust and opportunity for Api, who has been outstanding, but will push up to rep honours (imo), on the back of this pack and of course, his tough, skillful style.
If Manly can dominate the middle, this gives the opportunity to win ANY game and with players like Turbo and DCE playing off the back of this, it becomes a real proposition.
Personally rate this a Top 3 pack and capable of mixing it with anyone in 2018 - really keen to see these boys rip in - I feel its been a few years since Manly had such Powerful forward strength like this....

Didn't we virtually have the same pack last year except Thompson ? They weren't top 3 quality last year and we had better prop depth with BJ here. Lot of ifs and maybes with the second string guys - Lane, Perrett, Jetski, Kelepi - they've all been around a while now and haven't managed to cement a spot in any team (maybe harsh on Jetski because of injury). They all have potential, it's just a matter of whether it gets realised. Realistically I'd say only Marty and Jake are rep quality, the rest need to prove they can cut the mustard consistently

Apart from the fact AFB & Sirro are young and 2017 will add plenty to them, Thompson who is exactly the hard head needed is a massive signing, Gosiewski, Paseka & Sipley are basically all new & WILL fight for a spot along with Tanginoa who was a late 2017 pick up and the fact Jake is now an established leader, not a rookie with huge potential, with Api now having a better platform to play off, its EXACTLY the same as 2017 minus BJ who played at 50% and should have retired 2016.

These young guys, especially Sipley and Tanginoa will bring a huge improvement I reckon. Really, really excited for these two. If it were up to me they'd both be on our bench

Depth in back row much improved. plenty of the regular guys with potential, some may prove good (like gosiewski, Lane, Perrett). And we've got Sipley and Tanginoa who in my opinion have real potential that is definately there, and reckon they'll be awesome

Big statement saying they'll both go really well, although it's one i'm willing to stand by.

I like the Thompson signing a lot too, I think he'll make a big difference. He'll stiffen up that left edge and that'll take some of the pressure off Kelly having an experienced guy out there as his minder/mentor. Should also help our attack having a genuine option in Thompson as a decoy/hole runner - Frankenstein just got ignored week in week out by Green - that'll also give Kelly some more latitude in attack if the defense is second guessing. Depending on how the 5/8 situation works out I think our left edge could really contribute this season.

I can see AFB going up a level, he seems to have the right attitude and work ethic. If he keeps improving I think he can have a real impact off the bench for us this year. Big, dynamic unit - just what you want to punch some holes. Hopefully he can drag Lussick along for the ride, he looked like he was going to be the prodigal son returning with glory in 2016, but last year he regressed. Not sure what we'll get there this year. Sirro hasn't sold me totally yet, I think maybe he and DCE are still trying to work each other out - but there's glimpses of sunshine there.

I'll admit to being most hopeful about the Jetski this year, more on a hunch then anything else. He reminds me a bit of Daniel Gartner, just not sure where he gets used - maybe off the bench to rotate with Sirro ?

The rest of them are all "potentially" good players - less hope they step up. We are light on for props this year so it'd be great to see one of the bigger units really step up - we need that extra bench prop. Anyway that's what trials are for - taking opportunities and making the most of them.

Better than 2017.

Paseka, though he was still very much a raw Holden cup prospect when we got him. Looks part of the top squad now and a huge unit.
Paseka was starting to show real potential when he got injured in the last round against Penrith. Missed the whole finals run. Can get lost in attack, but he’s a handful. In defence, he hits very hard and is willing.

Speaking of big packs, how about Storm with Bromwich Kasiano and Asofa-Solomona.
The latter 2 are pushing the boundaries of being too big to play NRL consistently but if they stay on the park will be a handful. Apparently big Sam already hurt his ankle in the trial, let's see how his weight goes when he can't run for a while.

I'm pretty keen to see Sipley get a run in the trials...I do think that Perrett was decent last year - especially in the middle bit of the season like the Canberra game at Brooky - but he didn't totally 'own' that bench spot for mine. Had a few so-so games. Good to see young guns with potential waiting to have acrack - I just hope Barrett is brave early on and swaps things around if they aren't working out!

Just bear in mind mate size isn't everything...These kids might look like Tarzan and play like Jane in the top grade. What we really need to inject into our forwards is blokes with big tickers - I want a pack with a lot more mongrel and intimidation factor. When we were at our best we had hard blokes other teams feared. With young blokes that mentality takes time to develop with experience and confidence so don't expect miracles early on. Its gonna be a process

Agree about ticker. Look at T-Rex. He plays like Jane's little girl.

They could be soft...but I doubt it.....fighting for spots will find out those who have the mongrel and want or not.
The fact there is hard heads like Kapow and Lussick with the addition of the no nonsense toughness of Thompson, feel confident these boys have just about as good a platform as you could hope and with so many players fighting over a few spots in the top 17, the fact is - the size IS there and there's enough competition and history shows in that case, a few will rip in hoping to earn a spot or have a short career.

The huge young pack needs to have mongrel and heart to DOMINATE .
LITTLE TOOVEY proved that without HEART AND MONGREL you are only huge...
The moral of this story .......
ITS NOT THE SIZE OF THE EAGLE IN THE FIGHT
IT IS THE SIZE OF THE FIGHT IN THE EAGLE
